The NCC is a federal landlord of more than 600 assets (commercial, agricultural and residential) with more than 1,700 tenants.
A list of qualified people may be compiled and may be used for additional temporary or indeterminate positions.
JOB OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Chief, Property Management, the Building Operator is responsible for the completion of assigned preventative and corrective maintenance duties and emergency repairs on various types of mechanical, electrical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) or plumbing systems, and of any other tasks related to building maintenance. The Building Operator is also responsible for performing work in accordance with established processes and practices and for complying with internal and external requirements including but not limited to building codes, environmental, health and safety, and fire protection regulations and legislation.
The Building Operator will liaise and coordinate with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including property managers, project managers, National Capital Commission (NCC) staff, clients/occupants and service providers on a daily basis to identify, assess and define solutions to technical issues and to implement corrective actions to resolve them.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Secondary school diploma.
EXPERIENCE: Three to five years of experience in maintenance and repairs of building systems within residential, institutional, commercial and/or industrial portfolios.
KNOWLEDGE
• Of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems, along with their operation and maintenance schedules.
• Of practices, procedures and safety requirements of the operation of various equipment.
• Of Canadian Electrical Code, National Plumbing Codes and National Fire Protection Association.
• Of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS).

WORKING CONDITIONS
• Physical Effort and Environment: driving to properties, walk on uneven surfaces, wear personal protective equipment, bend, reach, climb and work in confined spaces, exposure to unfavourable environment conditions and exposed to uncontrollable weather conditions.
• Sensory Effort: handling tools and equipment, visual inspections, identify need for repairs and any hazards or safety issues.
• To work on call and standby, in addition to regular work schedule.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
• Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance.
• Linguistic profile: English Essential.
• Possess a valid driver’s license (Ontario; Class G, Quebec: Class 5, or Provincial equivalent) and provide a good driver’s abstract.
• The person selected for this position is expected to work on various NCC sites.
