General:
This position is a full-time position and is responsible for inspecting, examining and grading rough-sawn lumber on the table according to mill standards to ensure that our customers receive the proper grade and quality pf lumber for the intended use. In addition, this performs all assigned duties as a member of a flexible work team in accordance with safety rules and regulations.
FREQUENT standing (2-4 hours without a break), using hands and fingers to grasp, push, pull and lift/flip rough sawn lumber (10-50lbs) to inspect, examine, and grade lumber, push buttons and switches, etc.
CONTINUOUS use of vision needed to sort/grade lumber, hearing to understand and respond to various equipment sounds, process alarms, radio messages, etc., working in cold and hot areas.
RESPONSIBILTIES:
Performs duties as assigned, complies with all safety regulations and practices and follows specific directions. The tasks associated with this position include but are not limited to:
Recognizing size/grade/quality of material.
Making lumber to indicate grade and processing instructions using marker.
Tallying pieces of lumber according to grade and board footage.
Determining cuts to be made to obtain highest marketable value from material.
Removing unsatisfactory pieces from conveyor or table and placing pieces on stacks, in bins or on carts.
Scaling board footage, using calibrated scale on lumber ruler and recording results.
Checking moisture to ensure that all grade related strength and performance standards are met.
Checking lumber dimension to ensure adherence to quality control specifications.
Must use a tape measure accurately.
Maintaining 3% Above Grade and 3% Below Grade lumber to ensure the product is sound and well manufactured.
Follow specific instructions and direction.
Performing all clean-up operations throughout the plant.
Stacking material properly.
Performing all tasks with the following objectives in mind; safety, environmental, quality productivity in accordance with plant policies and procedures.
Assist in all areas of the Plant as directed by a Supervisor.
