Description:

There are three primary roles of the Foundation Instructor. To deliver the English and IT curriculum to the military students in accordance with all processes and policies at the QTI. To support the creation, maintenance and improvement the curriculum used in these departments. And thirdly, to provide student support, entailing 1:1 sessions, small group sessions and additional lessons to lower performing students.

The role will involve engaging in regular feedback meetings with Senior Instructors across both English and IT disciplines, in support of the continuous improvement of the Foundation department. Taking ownership of multiple classes across different subjects, the instructor must demonstrate flexibility and adaptability depending on the needs of the department.

Professionalism is a must at all times. Effective communication and cooperation are essential, as this role engages with multiple stakeholders.

Key aspects of the IT Instructor role are:

Effective delivery of the IT curriculum in accordance with relevant policies and procedures within the QTI.

Ensuring military students make good progress towards an internationally recognised IT qualification.

Evaluate and report student progress, attendance and behaviour to Foundation management.

Support the development of the IT department and instructors by identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, training and development initiatives.

Foster a culture of reflection, improvement and passion for teaching with a can-do, solution focused attitude.

Work collaboratively with all Foundation team, and wider QTI team.

Engage with the QTI’s performance management policy to ensure objectives are met.

Support the development of curriculum, including designing and creating curriculum, and observing lessons to assist in the continuous improvement of the curriculum.

Key aspects of the English Language Instructor role are:

Effective delivery of the English curriculum in accordance with relevant policies and procedures within the QTI.

Ensuring military students make good progress as measured against the CEFR, in preparation for the final exam.

Evaluate and report student progress, attendance and behaviour to Foundation management.

Support the development of the English department and instructors by identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, training and development initiatives.

Foster a culture of reflection, improvement and passion for teaching with a can-do, solution focused attitude.

Work collaboratively with all Foundation team, and wider QTI team.

Engage with the QTI’s performance management policy to ensure objectives are met.

Support the development of curriculum, including designing and creating curriculum, and observing lessons to assist in the continuous improvement of the curriculum.

Key aspects of the Student Support role are:

1:1 and small group sessions to provide additional target support for students in preparation for exams.

Additional support lessons for students who are not performing at the expected standards.

Providing feedback for instructors.

POC between different subjects and instructors to provide support for students and guidance for instructors.

Cover lessons to provide sustained support for instructors and standardised support for students.

Core Activity:

1. Operate within all mandated SHE guidelines.

Demonstrate excellent SHE behaviour and undertake all mandatory trainings.

2. Undertake all core job duties.

Teach English and IT to military student in preparation for Engineering programmes.

Apply and ensure consistent rules of classroom behaviour.

Carry out administrative tasks, ensuring all student data is captured.

Provide cover teaching if required.

Provide support to all students throughout the learning journey of the QTI.

3. Plan and teach effectively

Deliver lessons using a variety of differentiated instructional techniques that are appropriate for the context and meet the needs of the students.

Design and develop course material to set standards.

Provide ongoing oral and written feedback to students.

4. Maintain optimal operational performance in all areas of job duties.

Support course development, implementation and review.

Operate using proper lines of communication.

Engage with new technology.

5. Record, share and analyse all necessary data within required timeframes.

Assess students and provide both formative and summative evaluations.

Ensure all data is recorded accurately and on time.

6. Maintain a positive relationship with the military.

Interact positively with military personnel.

Respect rules and regulations of the military environment.

Requirements

Qualifications/Functional Knowledge:

Holds qualified teacher’s status/has relevant education and training qualification e.g. CELTA, TESOL, PGCE, and MA, BA in ELT/TESOL/Education/IT

IT Certifications such as Microsoft Educator, CCNA, Cybersecurity, CompTIA, CISCO, City and Guilds, ICDL.

Relevant experience teaching English and IT to international students in a range of contexts, especially in the Middle East desirable but not essential.

Experience of IELTS teaching and examinations.

Experience within a military setting desirable.

Demonstrable soft skills across a multi-disciplinary department.

Ability to use different teaching and administrative technologies.
