We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The salary range for this position is $65,000.00 to $68,739.84 and is commensurate with experience.
OME (So Others Might Eat) is seeking a passionate and experienced Building Maintenance Service Technician Instructor to join our Center for Employment Training.
Position Description: This role is responsible for developing and delivering a dynamic, hands-on curriculum that prepares adult learners for careers in building maintenance. The instructor will manage the classroom environment, coordinate curriculum development, and help students gain both technical skills and workplace readiness to thrive in the industry.
This position is located at our Center for Employment Training (CET), a tuition-free adult workforce training program that prepares adult learners for national, industry-recognized certifications for careers in Healthcare and the Building Trades. CET empowers people to move out of homelessness and poverty and into living-wage careers through hard and soft skills training, adult basic education, and career development.
CET is located at the Conway Center on Benning Road in NE Washington, DC.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (40 hours per week)
Required: High School Diploma or GED; 3-5 yrs. Experience in Building Maintenance in a residential/apartment setting
Required License/Certification: Certification in Electrical, Carpentry, HVAC, or Plumbing
Expected Contributions:
Deliver building maintenance service courses to students
Maintain curriculum in accordance with Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) recommendations aligned with CET holistic mission; update curriculum as needed
Maintain and develop a program manual that includes lesson plans, quizzes, and tests for the approved curriculum
Modify teaching approach based on specific topics and utilize various experiential, tactical, and relational teaching methods such as lectures, role-play, group projects, individual assignments, games, field trips, etc.
Prepare written instructional materials for trainees that are explicit and comprehensive
Differentiate instruction among multi-level learners (creative grouping, leveled assignments, etc.)
Ensure eligible students take the occupational credential exam at the designated time
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of maintenance operations and OSHA requirements

Ability to communicate with diverse audiences

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit or stand for long periods. This position may be active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.
Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to Drug and Alcohol testing prior to or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.
