Job Description

Title: Bilingual English/Spanish Medical Assistant

Responsible to: Clinic Coordinator

General Responsibilities:

Perform clinical and administrative duties under the supervision of the clinic coordinator,

Nurse Practitioners, Physicians and/or Nursing staff.

Display professionalism at all times.

Communicate effectively with patients and their family members, staff, outside agencies,

students, volunteers, and other visitors to the clinic.

Protect patient confidentiality as directed by HIPPA regulations.

Perform all duties within legal and ethical medical assistant scope of practice.

Work effectively as a member of the healthcare team.

Specific Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Work with fellow team members to build a positive work environment and maintain the

patient schedule.

Obtain and record patient symptoms and history.

Maintain patient records and medical forms.

Utilize medical aseptic techniques and adhere to OSHA Standards.

Complete rooming process per guidelines.

Perform vision and hearing testing as needed.

Assist with lab functions, collect specimens, perform venipuncture, capillary sticks, routine lab tests, and procedures as needed.

Prepare exam room, equipment, and patient for examinations and procedures.

Assist the provider during examinations and treatments, as requested.

Administer medications, injections, immunizations, and TB skin tests.

Dispense medications as indicated by the provider.

Coordinate incoming calls and the clinic medication refill line.

Notify patients of their lab/test results as requested by the provider.

Record on spreadsheet, medications received from pharmaceutical companies.

Perform administrative tasks related to patient records, appointments, forms, medical data and covering of front desk.

Assist in providing patient instruction, education, referrals, and routine screening tasks.

Assist and work with other team members in a professional manner.

Stock rooms as needed and log supply needs.

Stock clinic supplies and medications.

Enter data as needed for clinic reporting using clinic shared drive, and computer system.

Works under RN to administer childhood and adult immunizations

Qualifications:

Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Medical Assistant Program is preferred

Maintain CMA or equivalent healthcare credential or experience.

Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR Certification.

Ability to work well with a diversified population with varied lifestyles.

Ability to communicate effectively with patients, staff, students, volunteers, and Coordinator regarding patient problems.

Ability to work as a team member to build a pleasant, positive clinic environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to manipulate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
