Overview:
The Manager of Yard and Local Transportation oversees all operational activities, carrier relationships, capacity, and cost for freight movement in the Columbus, OH area and trailer movement on-site at distribution center campuses.
Scope:
The Local and Yard transportation network consists of 2 carriers supporting driver and truck equipment and 3 trailer rental vendors with all move requests and visibility supported by a Yard Management System (YMS). This network includes the oversight of the coordination of raw material, component freight movements, and finished goods into the Columbus, OH area Vendors, Distribution Centers, and Fulfillment Centers.
This role is responsible for managing relationships with all service providers as well as Supply Chain and Analytics, External Production Vendors, Distributions Centers, Shipping Buildings, and Asset Protection teams to assure capacity is aligned with business needs and integrated into the support plans of Bath and Body Works and service providers. This role is supportive of the negotiations and administration of service provider rates and capacities for drivers and equipment for trailer movement and leasing trailers totaling approximately $20M annual spend. This role includes two direct reports.
Responsibilities
Oversight of all yard operations inclusive of equipment utilization, trailer tracking, location accuracy and trailer repairs for Common Carrier and rental equipment
Leads coordination of DC storage trailer rental needs for both non-peak and peak seasons
Develop, maintain, and auditing of safe and accurate processes across partners for trailer movement and security
Assists in the development of “peak” season planning with cross-functional support from Operation and Supply Chain Planning teams, DC, Shipping, Service Providers and Vendors. This work is specific to planning for yard and move capacity, rental trailer fleet, and speed.
Lead communication with internal partners supporting our vendors at our Beauty Park location, DC operations, Visual and Marketing operations
Provide daily, weekly, and monthly reporting to aid in the management of the function
Lead daily or weekly meetings with the team to set expectations for the day / week, to include a summary of the previous day events
Conduct regular touchbase or connection points with all direct reports
Establish and manage relationships with service providers and customer service teams
Maintain a positive, healthy perspective in difficult situations, while remaining focused on immediate priorities
Respond quickly to change with a positive attitude and willingness to learn way to achieve objectives
Collaborate with Freight Accounting to ensure accurate and timely invoice approval and processing
Maintaining applications and data supporting the Yard Management System with ability to download and analyze reporting to evaluate the network and providers performance
Maintain relationship and maintenance of yard management system
5+ years of direct Transportation experience, owning transportation planning and execution processes and carrier relationships.
Strong understanding of various pricing structures relative to trailer rentals, driver labor, equipment usage, and fuel.
Demonstrate the ability to negotiate rates and capacity commitments.
Strong track record of leading a high-performance culture characterized by trust, collaboration, and customer service.
Possesses integrity, interpersonal and leadership skills to accomplish results with and through individuals and teams. Proven leadership skills advising exempt and non-exempt team.
Operates successfully within a team/ matrix organization to achieve desired outcomes. Interacts effectively with all levels of internal and external organizations, suppliers, and customers.
Possesses in-depth solid understanding and experience with transportation/yard management and execution applications.
Understanding of database design and the ability to extract data from applications and Access to analyze process performance.
Expertise in Excel, ability to perform functions such as pivot tables and formulas such as v-lookups.
Familiar with PowerPoint and developing presentations to communicate ideas, metrics, and analysis.
Possesses strong analytical, organizational and communication skills and an ability to handle difficult situations with ease.
Effectively balances workload across multiple priorities while remaining organized.
Familiarity with government regulations including Customs, DOT, and HazMat.
Education
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Transportation, Supply Chain, or another relevant business field.
