BOILER MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Job Description

SUMMARY:

Under moderate supervision, performs work involving the skills of two or more maintenance or craft occupations to keep machines, mechanical equipment, maintenance of the building, or the structure of an establishment in repair.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintenance of furnaces for the heat treat facility

Repair or replace defective equipment parts, using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment.

Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition or buildings does not deteriorate.

Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, or perform other maintenance actions, following checklists.

Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.

Assemble, install or repair wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems and plumbing, machinery, and equipment.

Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.

Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.

Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery

Dismantle devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, man lifts, fork truck, slings, rollers and power tools.

Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be able to locate, diagnose and correct problems in equipment and systems, equipment and machinery utilizing test equipment and/or prior work experience.

Must be able to read and understand electrical diagrams.

Must have a valid fork truck license

Must be able to communicate through written, verbal, or other means of communications.

Must be able to wear personal protection equipment, such as earplugs, safety glasses, and safety shoes.

Prior experience in dry walling, painting, and carpentry

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Successful completion of a 2 year trade school or equivalent technical experience preferred.

1 - 2 years recent experience in a production manufacturing environment required or 3 5 years preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Providing information to supervisors, co-workers by telephone, written form, e-mail, or in person.

Understanding written or oral information.

Talking to others to convey information effectively.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Basic knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, and geometry

REASONING ABILITY:

The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.

Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusion or approaches to problems.

Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Fork truck license

Valid drivers license

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Standing, sitting or bent position for 8 10 hours a day.

Able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds above head with control.

Raise arms above shoulders and maintain dexterity for extended periods of time.

Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.

Able to stoop or kneel for excessive periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Frequent exposure to the risk of electrical shock.

Occasionally working near moving mechanical parts.

Occasionally exposed to high temperatures.
