The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Metal Machinist (First Class) to join Oxworks. The role is classified under ANZSCO 323214 – Metal Machinist (First Class), making it suitable for both local and visa-sponsored applicants.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

1.Set up and operate manual and CNC machines such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to manufacture precision components for fencing, gates, and structural metal products.

2.Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings, CAD files, and specifications to determine machining operations and production sequences.

3.Manufacture and modify jigs, fixtures, and dies to support production and custom fabrication requirements.

4.Perform precision measurements using micrometers, vernier calipers, gauges, and other instruments to ensure adherence to tight tolerances.

5.Monitor machine operations and make real-time adjustments to maintain accuracy and efficiency.

6.Conduct quality checks and inspections throughout the machining process, ensuring all parts meet internal standards and client specifications.

7.Collaborate with design and fabrication teams to optimize part manufacturability and resolve technical challenges.

8.Perform routine maintenance on machinery and report any issues or breakdowns.

9.Maintain accurate job records, material usage logs, and production reports.

10.Adhere to workplace safety and housekeeping procedures in line with WHS regulations.

Required Skills and Experience:

1.Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade or equivalent qualification in Metal Machining.

2.Minimum 3 years of recent experience as a First-Class Machinist, including advanced skills in both manual and CNC machining.

3.Proven expertise in operating lathes, milling machines, boring machines, and surface grinders to high precision.

4.Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and machining instructions.

5.Strong knowledge of metal properties, machining methods, feeds, and speeds for a range of materials.

6. Proficiency in using precision measurement tools to ensure tight tolerances and quality finishes.

7. Ability to troubleshoot machining and tooling issues effectively.

8. Experience in producing components for structural, architectural, or outdoor construction applications is highly desirable.

9. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently or within a team.

10. Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement within a workshop or manufacturing environment.
