Schedule/Hours: Thursdays-Sundays / 4:30pm - 10:30pm

Position Summary
Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is seeking a dedicated and organized Glow Wild Event Lead to oversee the successful execution of the annual Glow Wild Lantern Festival, running Thursday through Sunday evenings from September 24 to December 15. Under the direction of the Director of Rentals and Events, the Event Lead will serve as the highest-ranking staff member on-site during their assigned shifts and will be responsible for coordinating event operations, ensuring guest safety and satisfaction, and liaising with vendors, volunteers, and Zoo departments.
This role offers valuable experience in event leadership, guest services, and operational coordination. Strong performance in this position may lead to opportunities to be considered for future events or roles requiring similar skill sets.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Arrive early to assist with opening preparations and ensure key buildings and areas are operational.
Conduct pre-shift meetings with staff to assign roles, provide updates, and address nightly needs.
Ensure event gates open promptly at 5:30 PM and ticket sales conclude at 8:30 PM.
Act as the on-site liaison between the Zoo and third-party vendors (Tianyu Arts and Culture and entertainment)
Greet and assign volunteers to key event areas to support guest experience and safety.
Operate Zoo vehicles (golf carts, city vehicles) to transport staff, equipment, or guests as needed.
Support rental operations and coordinate with rental leads on special events occurring during Glow Wild nights.
Assist with parking logistics, including directing traffic and patrolling lots.
Provide outstanding customer service and resolve visitor or staff concerns professionally.
Assist concession area (café, gift shop and front gate) staff when needed to maintain smooth operations.
Secure buildings, lock gates, and verify the Zoo and parking lots are closed and safe at night's end.
Support monetary transactions and secure bank deposits in accordance with lock-up procedures.
Refuel generators prior to the event start.
Lead staff in the event of emergencies and ensure response protocols are followed.
Perform additional duties as needed to ensure event success.
Physical Demands
Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather, including heat, cold, and rain (event` runs rain or shine).
Must be able to walk across Zoo grounds for extended periods, including uneven terrain.
Ability to stand, bend, squat, and reach frequently during shift.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds regularly throughout the shift.
Comfortable operating golf carts or small vehicles within the Zoo grounds.
Must be able to remain alert and responsive while working long evening shifts.
Qualifications and Requirements
Strong communication and leadership skills to manage staff, volunteers, and vendors.
Weekend and evening availability required.
Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Attention to detail and follow-through on responsibilities.
Team-oriented, flexible, and customer-focused.
Minimum age of 18 and valid driver's license required.
Additional Information
