POSITION SUMMARY: The Vehicle/Generator Mechanic is responsible for the operation and inspection, repair, assessing, diagnosing, and maintaining the main generators and fuel distribution system, the portable generators, engines, and auxiliaries.
This position requires skills in repairing and installing automatic as well as manual switch gears, maintaining generators in terms of refueling, cleaning, and changing the filter, and changing oil.
The Vehicle/Generator Mechanic must have mechanical aptitude and the ability to solve problems, make decisions, being able to work efficiently with great attention to detail.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Operates, maintains, and repairs generators and vehicles.
Performs the daily vehicles/generators inspections and checks and complete logs on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
• Troubleshoots and repairs engine-related mechanical failures, and performs routine preventative maintenance, oil and filter changes, and inspections on all generator and by-pass pumps.
• Follows the preventative maintenance program and the day-to-day generator’s operation.
Demonstrates a safety first culture.
• Monitors and operates the main switchboard and reports any discrepancies to the Assistant Technical Manager.
• Performs emergency repairs of generators.
Responsible for ensuring the use of spare parts in the most effective and productive manner.
• Operates assigned multimeters, pressure testers, feeler gauges, power, hammer drills, pipe benders, and welding tools.
Performs steelwork, including stainless steel, welding, including TIG and MIG.
• Performs Quality Control Analysis - conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
• Diagnoses and repairs any issues found during the initial testing of equipment.
• Maintains and repairs pumps and gas-powered tools, such as generators, augers, blowers, chainsaws, etc.
• Reads work orders and maintains records of production status for communication with the Management.
• Demonstrates effective Teamwork and collaboration with fellow Team Members and other departments.
• Maintains an orderly and clean work area, with all tools in good repair.
• Discusses complications with Management and brainstorm solutions for increased productivity.
• Adheres to all Company policies regarding PPE and Chemical Management.
• Displays advanced time management skills and completes tasks in a timely manner.
Completes logs and checklists.
• Sets up and closes working areas as per schedule or as instructed by the Management Team.
• Participates in trainings and meetings.
Adheres to a Company confidentiality agreement.
• Follows the destination’s grooming standards.
Ensures personal appearance, hygiene, and uniform appearance are always in accordance with Company policy.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES • Cleans, maintains, and services the equipment to increase its lifespan.
• Has the ability to control the inventory of tools and equipment.
• Determines inventory and compiles a bi-weekly list of all supplies, tools, and equipment needed.
QUALIFICATIONS: • A High School Diploma or technical education equivalency is required.
• Minimum of three (3) years of progressive technical experience and training in a ship or other industrial environment (merchant marine engine room rating preferred). • Minimum of two (2) years of operational experience with mechanical equipment and generators.
Experienced with diesel generators, diesel engines, auxiliaries, and electrical systems.
• Advanced knowledge of generator repair techniques, including needs assessment, problem resolution, and achievement of quality standards.
Advances skills in steelwork and welding.
• Comprehensive knowledge of repairing, troubleshooting, setting up, and breaking down generator equipment.
• Competent in basic mathematics and has the ability to read blueprints and drawings.
• Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities, and work without supervision.
• Experience logging performance metrics, inventory controls, fuel consumption analysis, and equipment scheme development is preferred.
• Knowledge of environment management and waste disposal.
• Proficiency in single-phase and three-phase systems is required.
• An understanding of industrial control systems is preferred (PLCs). • Experience with power logging, generator analysis, and equipment consumption monitoring is preferred.
• Knowledge of low-voltage systems, telecommunications cabling, sound system distribution, lighting control, and proximity sensing is preferred.
• Process-oriented with a sound understanding of SOPs and maintenance cycles for industrial systems is preferred.
• OSHA 10/30-Hour General Industry Certification is preferred.
• ASE Certification (Automotive Service Excellence, especially T-Series (Truck) or E-Series (Emergency Vehicles). • EPA 609 Certification (vehicle A/C systems) is preferred.
• NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety in the Workplace) is preferred.
• Generator-specific OEM Certifications (e.g., Cummins, Caterpillar, Kohler) is preferred.
• Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (CMRT) is preferred.
