Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Systems Administrator to join our dynamic IT team in a mission-critical environment. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with strategic infrastructure management, supporting both Windows and Linux enterprise environments while maintaining the highest security standards.
Core Responsibilities
Infrastructure Management
Hardware & Systems: Install, configure, and maintain desktop/laptop computers, network switches, enterprise servers, and storage devices across multiple sites
Network Security: Implement and manage comprehensive Network Security Monitoring solutions and robust backup systems
Software Administration: Deploy, configure, and manage diverse software applications including Windows and Linux operating systems, specialized radar signature generation tools, Computer Aided Design (CAD) packages, and software development/compiler environments
Daily Operations
Execute preventive and emergency maintenance procedures
Perform system monitoring and performance optimization
Manage patch deployment and security updates for Linux and Windows operating systems
Conduct security compliance assessments and baseline checks per DoD requirements
Perform security auditing per compliance and control requirements
Required Technical Skills
Windows Environment Expertise
PowerShell Automation: Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for routine maintenance tasks across multiple sites
System Implementation: Windows OS deployment, imaging, and inventory management systems
Network Services: DNS and DHCP scope management and troubleshooting
Security & Maintenance: Monthly patching cycles, firmware maintenance, and security baseline compliance
Directory Services: Active Directory Group Policy Object (GPO) configuration and management
Monitoring: Implement server monitoring solutions and alerting systems
Linux Systems Proficiency
Operating Systems: Strong working knowledge of Red Hat/CentOS Linux distributions for system implementation and patching
Security Compliance: DISA STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) evaluation and implementation experience
Baseline Security: Perform security compliance checks and baseline assessments based on DoD requirements
Integration: Configure Linux authentication against Windows domain controllers
Automation: Advanced Bash scripting for system administration and security compliance tasks
Package Management: Local YUM repository setup and maintenance
Infrastructure & Security
Networking: High-speed Ethernet, fiber optics, router, and firewall configuration
Storage Solutions: Enterprise storage administration and optimization
High Availability: Failover clustering implementation and management
Network Architecture: Modern LAN/WAN concepts, client/server environments, and network monitoring
Security Compliance Tools: Working knowledge of security compliance checkers and STIG evaluation tools
Risk Mitigation: Implement security measures and mitigate risks based on vulnerability assessments
Security Monitoring: Knowledge of SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) solutions
Endpoint Protection: Experience with EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) solutions preferred
Desired Experience & Qualifications
Technical Background
Proven experience in hardware/software troubleshooting and preventive maintenance
Hands-on experience with information assurance patch installation and security compliance
Knowledge of modern computer systems and network management concepts
Experience with enterprise-level infrastructure in multi-site environments
Working knowledge of DoD security requirements and DISA STIG implementation
Experience evaluating and implementing security baselines and compliance frameworks
Security auditing experience per organizational compliance and control requirements
Professional Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Excellent communication and customer service skills required
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Experience working in secure, compliance-driven environments
Cross-utilization capability: Ability to be cross-utilized across different teams and projects a plus
Education & Certifications
Education Requirements (Variable based on experience):
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
OR equivalent combination of education and professional experience
Preferred Certifications:
Microsoft certifications (MCSA, MCSE, or Azure-related)
Linux certifications (RHCSA, RHCE, CompTIA Linux+)
Cisco networking certifications (CCNA, CCNP)
Security certifications (Security+, CISSP) preferred
Security Clearance
Required: Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Preferred: Current active security clearance
Experience Requirements
2-4 years with Bachelor's degree, 4-7 years with relevant certifications
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $60,000 - $100,000 annually (commensurate with experience and education)
