Job Summary

This position provides quality EMT services. Supports paramedic in initial assessment, proper treatment intervention (invasive and noninvasive) to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in need of emergency and nonemergency medical care in the pre-hospital environment. This position is governed by the operating medical protocols, policy and procedure of South Central Regional Medical Center as approved by Administration, Medical Director, and the Mississippi State Department of Health, BEMS. Operate the ambulance in a safe efficient and orderly manner while on duty.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Core Duties:

Provide quality EMT services to patients.

Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with patients, families, first responders, co-workers, supervisors, dispatchers, staff in other locations, and other members of the public.

Plan and prioritize daily work to maximize productivity and efficiently manage time.

Provide leadership and guidance for EMS Drivers, Wheelchair drivers, new employees, and students.

Performs duties in an independent manner with little or no direct supervision but seeks guidance when appropriate.

Proper documentation of all assigned calls and correct completion of those medical records.

Assure equipment is properly checked, present, and ready for safe service.QualificationsEducation and Experience

Current NREMT EMT and preferred MSDH EMT License (MSDH License can be applied for after initial hire but must be maintained during employment)

Current MSDL and prefer MSDH EMS Driver’s license (MSDH EMS Driver can be obtained after initial hire but must be maintained during employment).

Prefer current CPR Certification (can be obtained after initial hire but must be maintained during employment).

Prefer FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 classes.

Physicians, nurses, other hospital departments, coworkers, other ambulance services, students.

Decision Making:

In conjunction with Supervisor, Dispatch, and other staff decisions that are in the best interest of the patient and their well-being should be made.

Physical Assessment:

Walking on various terrains, lifting large amounts of weight from equipment and patients, pushing/pulling/ and loading/unloading stretchers, operating medical equipment.

Exposure Classifications: High exposure risk
