The Application Development Engineer Wire & Cable is an expert in application and processing technologies used by the customers and has the responsibility for technically developing, installing and maintaining Borealis’ solutions at the customer. This position serves core customers in a defined geographical region. The role purpose is to pro-actively bring technical advice to customers, to position Borealis in the local value chain in the geographical region (customers, suppliers, end-users, standardization committees, interest groups, universities, R&D institutes, etc.), to bring information on market needs and trends from that value chain back to Borealis and to actively support Borealis technical innovation in assigned application area. This role is a remote role.
Area of responsibility:
Provide expert technical advice to Borealis core Wire & Cable customers
Technical advisor role; able to detect and develop sustainable customer solutions for the identified needs by advising customer with expert product, processing and application knowledge. Analyse and investigate (sometimes) complex customer complaints and propose measures to resolve and avoid problems. Assure availability of needed documentation (product information, product liability & compliance, analysis & quality data, etc.)
Co-develop core customer technical strategy with sales and marketing.
Support value creation
Seek new business opportunities for existing products, and position/communicate the (technical) added value of these new opportunities both externally and internally.
Identify and communicate technical application and processing value drivers in the value chain. Develop insight in the competitive positioning of competitors in specific application and process technologies for a defined geographical region. Interact with the value chain network active in area of responsibility. Publish and present technical papers at local conferences and fairs.
Support technical innovation
Support innovation that is of importance to Borealis. Therefore actively contribute to entire innovation process from needs identification to implementation, mainly focussing on: needs identification, defining and validating technical feasibility (application and processing fit) of proposed solution, and positioning the value of the solution towards the customer.
Support AS and Innotech
Provide application/processing technology support to sales, marketing, R&D, production, with AD&TS Expert knowledge or documentation.
Pro-actively identify IPR opportunities (patents and infringements)
Travel 25%-50%
About you
Education
Bachelors degree (e.g. engineering, chemistry, biochemistry, material science, chemical technology, mechanical, biology)
English: advanced knowledge, spoken and written
Plastics and extrusion experience
Industry experience in wire and cable
Formulation and product development knowledge
Technical product development expertise
5+ years relevant working experience in the Wire & Cable industry
Strong technical expertise in assigned application area
Excellent knowledge of the international market in assigned application area
Ability to build, maintain and influence value chain network
Ability in identifying, capturing and measuring value opportunities
