Ontic, a leading licensor and manufacturer of complex engineering parts for the global aerospace and defence industries, are now recruiting for a Payroll & HR Administrator to join our UK HR Shared Service team as a result of an internal promotion and further growth. This role will primarily be based onsite at our Bishops Cleeve site, with coverage expected at our Staverton site one day per week.

Job Purpose:
This role is responsible and accountable for transactional aspects of Payroll & HR Administration, providing comprehensive support across the function. The post holder will work closely with the HR team to ensure a high-quality, professional payroll service is delivered to the business, ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with company policies, compliance standards, and prevailing legislation. Acting as the first point of contact in a busy and fast-paced environment, you will provide vital payroll and HR administrative support across the employee life cycle and assist the Payroll & Data Specialist with core payroll activities. This will include ensuring the HR Services function operates efficiently and effectively, in line with SLA and KPI requirements, to provide the best people experience possible.
You will play a critical role in delivering an accurate and professional payroll function. As the first point of contact for payroll queries, you will be responsible for the end-to-end coordination of payroll activities — from collecting and validating payroll data to processing adjustments, statutory payments (e.g. SSP), and supporting monthly finance reporting. You’ll also provide front-line support to employees via the HR Service Desk, helping to ensure payroll queries are resolved swiftly and in line with SLAs.
Supporting the Payroll & Data Specialist, you’ll contribute to timely payroll submissions and act as the designated processor during periods of absence. You’ll also play a key role in ensuring all data is submitted accurately and on time to support third-party payments, monthly summaries, and compliance with regulatory requirements. As part of a broader commitment to operational continuity, you'll help maintain streamlined payroll processes, keep documentation up to date, and support audit-readiness through adherence to governance standards such as ISO27001 and Sarbanes-Oxley.
Alongside your payroll responsibilities, you’ll assist with HR administration linked to payroll including onboarding, offboarding, contractual changes, and facilitation of pre-employment screening such as drug and alcohol testing. You’ll support the HR team in areas like Occupational Health, disciplinary procedures, referencing, and maintaining employee records in the HRIS. You will also contribute to data reporting, metrics tracking, and ongoing improvements to enhance the employee experience and ensure full compliance with all employment legislation and company procedures.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Experience gained within a busy administrative role involving access to sensitive personal data, payroll exposure and working in a discreet and confidential environment.
A recognised HR or Payroll qualification equitable to Certificate in Human Resources Administration (CIPD Level 3) or equivalent experience is desirable.
Ability to work in a fast-paced HR environment and able to maintain confidentiality at all times. Able to multi skill and prioritise to meet deadlines and demonstrate excellent time management, organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrate effective IT skills (to include HRIS, MS Office applications) to produce high quality, timely and professional documentation. Workday HRIS experience is desirable.
Possess highly accurate data entry skills and attention to detail.
