Scope of Position

The Ohio State University Health System is committed to improving access and service to customers. The Department of Patient Access Services (PAS) functions as an integral member of the health care team to reflect a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm and mutual respect. This department further provides the scheduling and registration function for both the inpatients and outpatients that access hospital based services. Data is gathered for billing, clinical, physicians’ relations, clergy, compliance and statistical purposes. Accurate data is gathered prior to or at the time services are rendered. Department provides miscellaneous patient and visitor information. Registration areas include hospital based registration sites. The department operates twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week.

Position Summary

The Registration Coordinator Lead carefully and patiently interviews patients and/or family members to obtain the most up to date information. Quality data collection includes accurate information including demographic, physician, insurance, employment and other miscellaneous information. The lead coordinates the admission process from pre-registration to the patient’s arrival on the nursing unit focusing on accurate data collection, quality service, and customer satisfaction. This includes timely registrations, the collection of quality data and continuous training to staff members, coaching and mentoring to departmental clinicians as applicable. Ensure accurate identification of managed care plans, network eligibility, and compliance with contractual requirements and alerts provider and/or patient as necessary regarding eligibility issues. Determines the patient financial responsibility and performs revenue collection. May perform daily balancing, coding and charge entry procedures related to cash posting.

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire: Per CCS Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.

Background in registration and customer service.

Knowledge of registration/billing practices as well as hospital patient accounting practices desired.

On going:

Meets health requirements

Demonstrates competency measured by annual quality checks.

Health System and Departmental In-services, education forums, and meetings as required.
