JOB TITLE: SPECIAL SERVICES PROGRAM COORDINATOR
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Special Services
JOB SUMMARY: The primary role of the Special Services Program Coordinator is to directly support special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and other special services staff to implement best practices and help maximize student outcomes in YPS special education programs and classrooms. The Coordinator is responsible for providing support in instructional planning and delivery, specially designed instruction, analyzing data in order to adapt curriculum, and sharing of best practices across all academic disciplines including classroom management and student behavior. The Coordinator will also make recommendations about potential next steps to address areas of need in the classroom and related to individual student needs. Additionally, the Coordinator may be called upon to observe and support special education students in inclusion/general education classrooms as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Collaborates with teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and other staff to provide strategies, interventions, and resources to improve outcomes for all students with disabilities. This might include but is not limited to providing consultation in the following areas: instruction, assessment, curriculum, behavior, organization, use of visual systems, sensory needs, social skills, and the design of the physical environment in the classroom.
Supports teachers and other staff in deepening their knowledge of specially designed instruction while aligning standards, curriculum, and assessment in special education programs/classrooms.
Makes recommendations about delivering appropriate content while implementing accommodations based on information in the IEP and specific student needs.
Supports teachers in gathering, understanding, analyzing, and utilizing data to support equitable student access to learning. Helps establish a culture that uses student data regularly to inform/improve instructional practices.
Collaborates with teachers, administrators, and other staff to provide/implement effective strategies, interventions, and resources for students with challenging behaviors.
Supports teachers in the development of strong and legally defensible IEPs. Assists in the facilitation of IEP meetings when needed.
Provides professional development based on teacher, building, and district needs.
Observes teachers for the purpose of providing feedback to improve teacher growth and student outcomes. Facilitates reflection and problem solving with teachers.
Co-teaches and/or models lessons as needed to support teacher development.
Builds teacher capacity in ensuring all students with disabilities have equitable access to rigorous learning opportunities that take individual student needs into consideration.
Researches a variety of topics (e.g. current best practices, policies, trends, etc.) for the purpose of providing information, recommendations, and addressing a variety of program needs.
Works with teachers to create effective, productive partnerships with their paraprofessionals.
In collaboration with Principals, conduct evaluation of teachers in district special education programs.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Assistant Director of Special Services for the purpose of promoting the goals of the department.
EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
Five years of experience working in a school setting preferred; 5 years of experience providing direct instruction in a special education classroom setting preferred
Master’s Degree required; Valid Oklahoma School Administrator certificate required
Currently have or be willing to obtain within 6 months of hire date, certification as a trainer in restraint/seclusion and conduct training for staff.
Currently have or be willing to obtain within 6 months of hire date, training and certification necessary to conduct evaluations in accordance with Oklahoma’s Teacher and Leader Effectiveness framework
Demonstrated skill in “coaching” staff, while providing technical assistance to principals, teachers, and staff concerning the teaching/learning process; successful experience with professional learning communities.
Apply principles of logical, critical, creative or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
Knowledge of state, local and federal guidelines related to special education (IEPs; 504s; FERPA, etc.)
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
220 day contract, 8 hours per day, Administrator’s contract
Salary step placement based on years of similar school administration and/or district level leadership experience.

WORKING CONDISTIONS:
Will be required to regularly stand, walk, and sit for extended periods
Must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds
May experience constant interruptions, inflexible deadlines, and changes to normal routines.
The ability to communicate with various groups of people is essential. This may include communication with parents, teachers, and administrators.
The ability to effectively balance time and effectiveness in an office environment, a classroom environment, and a collaborative leadership environment constitute a major portion of this job.
Some flexibility in the work schedule may be required, including limited evenings and flexible report times
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and responsible driving record; must have reliable transportation.
