The Data Automation Engineer (Mid-Level) designs, builds, and maintains secure data processing scripts, ETL pipelines, and reporting tools in support of MACPAC task orders. This role collaborates closely with analysts, project managers, and security teams to deliver accurate, compliant, and audit-ready data solutions that support Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) research objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, test, and maintain scripts for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) using Python, SQL, or similar languages.

Automate repetitive workflows, routine data validations, and report generation tasks.

Process and integrate large healthcare administrative datasets, including Medicaid and CHIP claims, enrollment, and encounter files.

Perform data quality assurance checks and reconcile data anomalies.

Write clear, maintainable code and create thorough documentation for reproducibility and compliance.

Collaborate with policy analysts, data owners, and project managers to refine technical requirements.

Contribute to secure coding standards and ensure pipelines align with federal data privacy and security policies.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

3–5 years of experience in data engineering, ETL development, or automation scripting.

Demonstrated experience working with Medicaid and CHIP administrative data, such as claims, enrollment, encounter data, or related state/federal health datasets.

Proficiency in Python, SQL, or other scripting languages commonly used for data transformation and automation.

Familiarity with secure coding practices and version control tools (e.g., Git).

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education

Bachelors Degree

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with federal data submission standards such as T-MSIS.

Experience working in a compliance-heavy or secure federal environment.

Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203), AWS Certified Data Analytics, or CompTIA Security+.
