Salary: External Rate: $43,700.11

Internal Rate: $44,591.94

Program Overview – Child Care & Family Services (Multiple Locations)

The ECA Program Staff is responsible for the care of children in group settings by assisting other team members

in planning, supervising, and implementing the daily program. This position is responsible for providing appropriate

direction, encouragement and support to the children, their families, staff, students, and volunteers in addition to

being flexible, resourceful, sensitive, and respectful of individual needs.

What You Will Do

Responsible for the guidance and care of children in groups and for assisting in the planning and implementation of daily programs with a pedagogical approach consistent with the Ministry of Education’s policies, pedagogy and curriculum and the City of Toronto’s Quality Care Requirements.

Responsible for setting reasonable limits according to the child's developmental stage, and for giving appropriate direction, encouragement and support individually and in groups. This includes providing extra support for individual children when necessary.

Responsible for recognizing, dealing with, and defining unusual behaviour and, if unable to deal with behaviour successfully, reporting to the Manager and working with various professional and resource persons as required.

Responsible for recording the daily attendance of the children, receiving medical information as required especially in cases of ongoing absenteeism, and reporting to the appropriate personnel.

Responsible for the daily safety, health and hygienic conditions of the children.

Responsible for safely escorting children outside of the centre along with RECE program staff and for contributing to the adequate supervision of children on all outings.

Responsible for written daily reports, for completing written assessments and developmental checklists, and for informing parents on an on-going basis about children’s progress.

Responsible for the upkeep of equipment and furnishings, for informing the Manager when replenishment is necessary, for sharing housekeeping responsibilities, and for assessing equipment needs and making recommendations regarding purchases.

Responsible for reporting any signs of physical or mental abuse of any children in care to the proper authorities.

Responsible for performing housekeeping duties.

What You Bring to the Team

Early Childhood Assistant Certificate OR proof of completion of one year of Early Childhood Education program at a recognized Ontario College.

Valid Standard First Aid/CPR-C.

Health assessment, including up-to-date immunization records and TB test required.

Ability to maintain neat and accurate records and prepare reports.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of all children, parents, and staff information.

Ability to carry/lift children and carry/lift/move moderately heavy items.

Ability to stand for extended periods; to work at the height of children.

Willingness to work in conditions involving exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, frequent high noise levels, and occasional inclement weather.
