Job Description
Under the direction of the CFAES Director-Safety and Compliance, and with a reporting line to University EHS, the Environmental Health and Safety Officer provides oversight to the PAAR BSL3-Ag Facility in Wooster as the Select Agent Responsible Official to ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations in the conduct of high consequence biological research. Assist in compliance oversight and inspections at other CFAES select agent laboratories.
Collaborates with CFAES Safety and University EHS personnel to conduct laboratory compliance inspections at CFAES locations. Serves in an advisory capacity for biosafety and biosecurity questions that arise across CFAES Operations.
30%- Serve as the Federal Responsible Official (RO) for the PAAR BSL-3Ag Facility on the CFAES Wooster Campus which includes 24/7 on call responsibilities; oversees the safe use and security of high risk bio-hazards including select agents used in laboratories and animal facilities; ensures compliance with all regulations regarding the safe use, handling, storage and transport of select agents, provide support to the Office of Responsible Research Practices, The Office of Research, Institutional Risk Committees and the Institutional Bio-safety Officer.
Performs management of the Wooster Campus Chemical Safety program in collaboration with University EHS. Coordinate with University contracted vendor on site pickup of generated waste and laboratory supply delivery to ensure service delivery at the laboratory level. Responsible for calibration and coordination of CFAES Safety monitoring and emergency response equipment.
Minimum Education Required: Bachelors degree in biological, life science, or chemistry.
Required Qualifications: 4 years of relevant experience required. 4 years work as a member of select agent program. Experience designing and managing employee training and safety programs, experience conducting or participating in the conduct of biological and and/or chemical risk assessments, excellent in
Desired Qualifications: Previously served as an Alternate Responsible Official (ARO) or Responsible Official (RO) in a registered select agent program.
