Primary Purpose:

Provide direct health services to students with disabilities in special education and/or general classroom setting. Provide one on one nursing and personal care per student's health care plan and educational plan under the guidance and direction of a licensed registered nurse.

Education / Certification:

Minimum Requirement: Valid Texas license issued by the Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners/Current BLS CPR certification

Special Knowledge / Skills:

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to user computer, printer, and software.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written. Experience / Other Requirements:

One year of experience in health-related position, preferably with school-age children. Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Clinical

Provide all medical and personal care of a medically fragile student during school hours.

Administer medications and treatments to students according to school district policy/procedures and the student's medical plan of care.

Use Universal Precautions' Procedures when cleaning all body spills and providing injury care. Clerical

Maintain updated information on all assigned students' health records.

Maintain daily logs of student activities, treatments, personal care and medications dispensed. Compliance

Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, the Texas Department of Health, State Board of Education, and Comal ISD.

Comply with all district and campus routines, procedures, and regulations.

Maintain confidentiality.

Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance ad learning the records retention schedule for department records.

Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Potential Equipment Used:

Thermometer, stethoscope, sphygmomanometer, suction machine, nebulizer, wheelchair, any other medically related equipment required per MD order, computer, telephone and copier.
