Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for multiple Research Assistantship(s) (MSc/PhD) in PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in livestock systems at the University of Maine, located in Orono, ME. The Research Assistantship will involve conducting livestock experiments, collecting and analyzing animal samples, compiling research data, and assisting in the preparation of reports and manuscripts. The role also includes collaborating with faculty and team members on various research projects and maintaining lab equipment and inventory.
Qualifications
Research skills in conducting experiments and sample analysis
Data management and analysis skills
Experience with sheep and goats is preferred, but not mandatory
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively with a research team
Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Must have at least 2 years of driving experience
Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Must be able to work with sheep and cattle
Must have a BSc in a life science career (e.g. Animal Science)
These positions offer competitive salaries ($ 30,000-$ 40,000) based on experience with full insurance coverage. Our research is fully equipped with the latest in animal nutrition (NIRS, IDEXX blood analysis) and toxicology equipment (UPLC), both in the lab and the field (livestock and forage equipment). Our campus has a brand new robotic dairy and is a leader in PFAS research.
