Adjunct Instructor - Photography
Position Summary: Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD) seeks a dynamic and knowledgeable instructor to teach an introductory course in Digital Photography for artists and designers. This foundational course introduces students to digital photography as a form of visual communication and creative expression. The ideal candidate will possess technical expertise with camera operations and digital workflows, a strong understanding of historical and contemporary photographic practices, and a commitment to fostering interdisciplinary creativity.
Key Responsibilities:
Teach foundational digital photography concepts that include manual camera operations (e.g., aperture, shutter speed, ISO, RAW capture, focus modes) across various devices (DSLRs, mirrorless, mobile).
Introduce students to post-production processes that include file formats, exposure correction, image editing, and digital workflow management.
Guide students in developing visual literacy and evaluative skills to critique and interpret photographic works using appropriate terminology.
Present key historical and contemporary photographic artists to support student exploration of diverse modalities of photographic expression.
Encourage integration of ideation strategies and creative problem-solving into the photographic process.
Create a supportive learning environment where students can engage in peer critique and develop their unique voice through photography.
Managing class logistics that include grading, assignment planning, and material preparation.
Maintain regular communication with students and department leadership.
Required Qualifications:
MFA in Photography, Fine Arts, or a related field.
Demonstrated technical proficiency with digital cameras, editing software (e.g., Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop), and lighting.
Knowledge of photography's historical and contemporary contexts, particularly lens-based media in an art and design context.
College-level teaching experience or equivalent educational facilitation.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to create inclusive, student-centered learning experiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching students from a range of disciplines (Photography, fine art, etc.)
Familiarity with interdisciplinary or experimental photographic practices
Experience using learning management systems and digital critique platforms
Additional Requirements:
Access to DSLR or mirrorless camera for demonstration and teaching purposes.
Willingness to align with department outcomes and assessment practices.
