This role offers a stimulating blend of hands-on technical work and collaborative project contributions, with responsibilities generally broken down as follows:
Server and Network Maintenance (60%)
Install, configure, and maintain our core operating systems (primarily Windows, with some Linux), servers, and essential network devices.
Proactively monitor system performance and swiftly troubleshoot issues, ensuring maximum uptime and optimal functionality of our infrastructure.
Administer and maintain our comprehensive network, including switches, routers, firewalls, and VPNs, to ensure seamless connectivity and security.
Implement and manage robust backup and disaster recovery solutions, safeguarding our critical data against loss.
Perform regular system upgrades, apply necessary patches, and configure security settings to continuously protect our environment from threats.
Desktop Support (20-30%)
Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls, ensuring robust data security and compliance.
Provide essential technical support and guidance to end-users, efficiently resolving hardware and software problems. You'll work in close partnership with desktop support colleagues to ensure seamless user experiences.
Project Work (10-20%)
Collaborate effectively with the broader IT team on various projects and initiatives, leveraging your expertise to enhance our systems and processes.
Document thoroughly system configurations, operational procedures, and troubleshooting steps, creating clear and comprehensive records for future reference.
Stay current with the latest technologies and industry best practices, actively researching and recommending innovative solutions to improve our IT landscape.
What You'll Bring:
Experience: At least 3 years of proven experience as a System Administrator or in a similar, hands-on IT support role.
Education: A bachelors degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience demonstrating strong technical aptitude.
Technical Skills:
Strong expertise in Windows Server environments, including Active Directory and Group Policy management.
Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V.
Solid understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and fundamental network security principles.
Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python) is a significant plus.
Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is also a valuable asset.
