The Opportunity:

As our Cook, you will be instrumental in preparing food in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, as well as our established policies and procedures. You'll work closely with our Director of Food Services and Dietitian to ensure that every meal meets the highest standards of quality, taste, and dietary compliance.

What You'll Do:

Meal Preparation & Quality:

Prepare and serve a variety of palatable and appetizing meals in large quantities, following planned menus and standardized recipes.

Ensure all food is prepared for therapeutic diets according to specific orders.

Implement established portion control procedures.

Dietary Coordination & Compliance:

Review menus, inspect special diet trays for accuracy, and process diet changes efficiently.

Collaborate with the facility's dietitian and nursing services to implement necessary dietary adjustments.

Coordinate dietary services with other departments to ensure timely meal preparation and delivery.

Safety & Sanitation:

Adhere strictly to sanitary regulations, infection control policies, and universal precautions.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen and food storage areas.

Report any hazardous conditions or equipment immediately.

Teamwork & Leadership:

Develop and maintain positive relationships with all inter-departmental personnel and residents.

Assist in standardizing work methods and contribute to a positive and calm environment within the department.

Provide guidance and oversight to other staff as needed.

Inventory & Equipment Management:

Ensure food and supplies are readily available for upcoming meals.

Assist with inventorying and storing incoming food and supplies.

Recommend equipment and supply needs to the Director of Food Services.

Requirements

What You'll Bring:

Education: A minimum of a 10th-grade education.

Experience: While not required, one (1) year of experience in a hospital, skilled nursing care facility, or other related medical facility is preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

Ability to cook a variety of foods in large quantities.

Strong understanding of dietary practices, procedures, and relevant regulations for long-term care facilities.

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.

Excellent decision-making skills, tact, and the ability to interact effectively with personnel, residents, families, and visitors.

A patient, tactful, cheerful disposition with a willingness to handle residents with varying maturity levels.

Strong leadership qualities and the ability to work harmoniously with and supervise professional and non-professional personnel.

Commitment to maintaining resident confidentiality and rights.

Physical Requirements: This role requires significant physical activity, including frequent standing, walking (greater than six hours per day), occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds, and frequently pushing/pulling in excess of 100 pounds. You must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday and possess the sensory abilities (sight, hearing, touching, smelling) to perform the job effectively.
