Phlebotomist II – Job Description
The Phlebotomist II represents the face of our organization to patients—serving those who come for routine health monitoring or important diagnostic testing. This position is responsible for collecting quality blood specimens and ensuring the integrity of samples for laboratory testing, while delivering exceptional patient care.
The Phlebotomist II has direct patient interaction and is expected to foster a professional, courteous, and trustworthy environment. This role also involves mentoring newer staff, demonstrating leadership behaviors, and adhering to high standards of accuracy, confidentiality, and customer service.
Primary Responsibilities
Perform daily phlebotomy duties accurately, efficiently, and on time under the supervision of an area supervisor.
Collect blood and other specimens from patients in a safe and skillful manner.
Ensure proper patient identification and accurate labeling of specimens in the presence of the patient.
Prepare specimens for transport to the lab following all established protocols.
Maintain a clean, safe, and professional environment at all times.
Provide clear instructions and support to patients during the collection process.
Accurately complete all required records and documentation.
Exhibit leadership behaviors and act as a resource for less experienced staff.
Promote a positive image of the organization to patients, clients, and team members.
Job Requirements
Ability to produce high-quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong phlebotomy skills, including experience with pediatric and geriatric patients.
Flexible and available based on staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, and overtime.
Committed to all Company Policies and Procedures, including dress code and safety standards.
Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record (if applicable).
Ability to adapt to different work locations with short notice.
Effective multitasking in a high-volume setting.
Strong customer service skills and communication abilities.
Willingness to embrace change, share knowledge, and collaborate.
Training and Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent – Required
Medical training (e.g., Medical Assistant or Paramedic) – Preferred
Phlebotomy Certification – Preferred; Required in California, Nevada, and Washington
Experience
Minimum 3 years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections – Required
At least 2 years in a Patient Service Center environment – Preferred
Experience in customer service, particularly in retail or service environments – Preferred
Competence with keyboard and data entry systems
