JOB SUMMARY

This position is located in the District of Columbia Government, Department of Buildings (DOB), with primary responsibility in the Office of Construction and Building Standards. The mission of the DOB is to protect the safety of residents, businesses, and visitors and advance the development of the built environment through permitting, inspections, and code enforcement. DOB is a national model of customer service and value creation; a catalyst for responsible economic development, social diversity, and environmental sustainability, and are essential to a thriving and resilient city.

Incumbent is responsible for managing Plan Reviewers and Building Code Inspectors, to ensure project drawings are compliant to the D.C. Building Construction Codes. Incumbent analyzes, evaluates, and advises higher level management on the efficiency and effectiveness of programs in assigned area.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans and organizes work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and establishes deadlines for task completion. Assigns tasks to based on priorities, develops performance establish standards, evaluates work, and provides guidance, advice, or instruction on work and administrative matters. Interviews candidates for positions in the unit, recommends appointments, promotions, or reassignments to such positions.

Directs the allocation of resources to achieve timely outcomes and measurable goals within budget; modifies plans and programs to accommodate emerging or new initiatives while maintaining focus on major program priorities. Analyzes program data and performance measures in relation to agency, local/state, and national objectives for the program area. Tracks industry trends, local and regional program area issues, and District policy to ensure integration of program initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

Specialized experience is work that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

The work is performed in an office setting.

Duration of Appointment: Management Supervisory Service (MSS) At-Will
