Emergency Communications Specialist - Level 1

Part-time casual role in a 24/7/365 environment

We are currently looking for an Emergency Communications Specialist - Level 1 at our Calgary base in the Emergency Link Centre.

Members of the Emergency Link Centre (ELC) are often referred to as the fifth crew member on the aircraft as they are a critical part of every mission STARS flies. The ELC team works to bring together the right resources at the right time to get live-saving help where they are needed. Key Responsibilities:

Respond to requests from first responders, dispatch professionals and physicians in support of critical care processes for critically ill and injured patients

Follow established protocols to ensure each call is handled effectively and efficiently through collaboration with team and other stakeholders

Accurately and diligently input information into a multi-screen computer system in real time

Utilize computer aided dispatch, mapping tools and telephone

Maintain discretion and confidentiality of information

Qualifications & Requirements:

Excellent communication skills with a professional phone manner

Must be resilient, and comfortable being exposed to trauma calls/troubling circumstances

Ability to remain calm under pressure

High level of accuracy and attention to detail are essential

Strong time management and multi-tasking abilities

Excellent analytical, critical-thinking and decision-making skills

Ability to adapt to ever-changing situations and maintain awareness of what is going on around you

Proficiency in the use of technology required, ideally including public safety telecommunications software, mapping, radio, computer aided dispatch (CAD), telephone conferencing and systems

Minimum typing speed of 40 WPM

One or more years of experience working in a fast-paced, high-pressure role that requires multi-tasking is an asset
