Job Description

In this role you will work primarily in the OB department providing nursing care specific to childbearing women, newborn infants, and families based on evidence-base practice. You may flex into the Med/Surg department to assist when needed.

Schedule:

PRN/Casual position; Hours and shifts will vary.

Responsibilities include:

Uses the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate highest quality nursing care for intrapartum/postpartum and newborn patients.

Monitors and recognizes changes in physiologic status, takes appropriate action based on assessment, and evaluates and documents findings and patient response.

Provides skilled nursing care in accordance with Nurse Practice acts.

Delegates appropriate care appropriately to other team members

Follows the Standards of Nursing Care as well as the Nursing Process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation while delivering high quality patient care.

Continually strives to meet and exceed customer service standards in all interactions with customers, which include patients, visitors, other hospital employees, and medical staff

Demonstrates critical thinking skills.

Communicates effectively.

Personal accountability to stay up to date on all communication.

Communicates an accurate, concise end of shift patient report in a timely manner.

Interacts with physicians regarding patient status on an on-going basis.

Communicates effectively with all members of the patient care team.

Communicates patient status and plan of care with patient and their family.

Attends staff meetings and mandatory education.

Maintains appropriate licenses and certifications independently.

Qualifications:

Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing, required, Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, preferred.

State of Wisconsin Registered Nurse license, or ability to obtain, required.

Current BLS and ACLS certification, required.

Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

STABLE certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Fetal Heart Monitoring or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Minimum of 1 year of Labor & Delivery experience, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Perform essential functions of a Registered Nurse

Knowledge of current nursing practices and technical skills

Skilled in use of basic patient care equipment and supplies

Demonstrate and maintain required competencies.

Recognize change in patient condition/body systems.

Knowledge of infection control practices and their relation to patient care outcomes

Accuracy and attention to detail in performing all job duties

Assess multiple systems, develop plan of care, provide intervention and education, and assess outcomes of patient care.

Ensure that all physician orders are transcribed accurately and carried out as soon as possible.

Effectively participate in the interdisciplinary care team

Delegate to appropriate care team members.

Develop and maintain effective working relationships with patients, family members and co-workers.

Effectively handle stress.

Communicate clearly both orally and in writing.

Maintain confidentiality per OMC policy.

Provide age appropriate and culturally appropriate care.

Participate in the orientation process of new staff.
