Performs skilled and semi-skilled tasks assisting in the care, maintenance and repair of park facilities, grounds & equipment.

Inspect and perform general clean up and grounds maintenance, weed/pest abatement and facilities cleaning duties, some of which require heavy manual labor; perform grooming of city parks and properties by mowing, trimming and edging turf and caring for plants and landscaping by maintaining watering, weeding and trimming.

Depending upon assignment, may drive utility trucks, dump trucks, and/or other vehicles; may operate a backhoe; able to use and operate flagging equipment to control traffic in vicinity of work crews.

May operate a variety of power tools such as jackhammers, compressors, cutoff saws, pavement saws, weed eaters, lawnmowers, etc.; use a variety of computerized devices.

Use and properly care for a variety of specialized hand tools, vehicles, and equipment; deliver parts, materials, tools, and equipment; perform basic repairs as needed; perform periodic and routine maintenance and safety checks for vehicles, maintenance equipment and cards.

Keep clear and accurate records related to the care and maintenance of parks facilities, equipment or procedures.

Provide technical assistance and participate in the training of seasonal staff; assist in the implementation of department/division goals and objectives; participate in safety training programs and other related functions.

Operate a cell phone and a computer for routine communications.

Inspect park playground equipment and facilities; perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair and construction of general parks and recreation facilities; remove and/or report possible hazards to ensure safety.

Adhere to all safety regulations and requirements for the use of power tools and equipment and hazardous materials.

May serve as a lead worker for park maintenance workers and seasonal workers.

Assist and support team performance and work cooperatively with other team members; communicate effectively in a positive manor; provide positive support to internal and external customers; performs as a member of the team; acts ethically and responsibly; supports and demonstrates engagement in diversity, inclusion and equity and maintains effective working relationships with others; demonstrates professionalism and respect in all workplace interactions.

Arrives to work, meetings, and other work-related functions on time and maintains regular job attendance.

AUXILIARY JOB FUNCTIONS: Make suggestions and recommendations to supervisor concerning ways of improving maintenance and reducing costs.

Follow all safety rules and procedures established for work areas.

Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.

Work effectively with other employees and the general public; demonstrates a high level of customer service and professionalism when interacting with the public while performing assigned work in the community.

Perform other routine park maintenance duties as may be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE Education: Possession of a high school diploma or GED.

Experience: A minimum of three (3) years experience in the repair and maintenance of grounds, park facilities and equipment, or graduation from a technical school in a related field.

Substitution: Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the job proficiently may substitute for the above requirements.

License: Possession of a valid Oregon driver's license and acceptable driving record; must have the ability to obtain a Class B Oregon driver's license within 6 months of hire.

Desirable Qualifications: Completion of basic first aid and CPR training is desirable.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to work weekends, holidays and evening hours; must have or be able to obtain basic first aid, CPR, Competent Person, and Flagging certifications within six (6) months of appointment.

Knowledge of: Methods, means and materials used to perform work in the assigned position.

Use and basic maintenance of light and heavy vehicles.

Methods of trenching, shoring, and other safe working conditions.

The operation and maintenance of a variety of hand and power tools and power equipment.

Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.

Basic office administration and equipment, including computers and calculators.

Ability to: Follow written and oral instructions.

Implement City and Parks & Recreation policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.

Perform a wide range of construction and maintenance activities, using standard methods and equipment.

Organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines.

Enter data and retrieve information from various computer systems for necessary duties.

Operate a personal computer and other electronic equipment, and cellular phones.

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
