Assistant Principal (12-month)
Assistant Principal positions with Muscle Shoals City Schools are typically 222 or 240 day assignments unless noted otherwise. New hires with the district are required to attend a one day orientation. More than one position per category may become available and applicants may be considered for placement throughout the district based upon appropriate and current Alabama Certification credentials.
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL:
To serve as the professional assistant leader of the school. To work, under the direction of the principal with staff, students, and community to ensure a high quality educational program, to formulate and accomplish the school mission, and assist the principal in providing for an environment of high expectations for staff and students.
SUPERVISES:
Faculty, staff, and students as designated by the principal
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in providing effective leadership in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating the instructional program.
Assists in interpreting and enforcing federal and state laws and state and local board policies.
Assists the principal in personnel functions.
Completes assigned classroom observations.
Assists the principal in securing, maintaining, and managing material resources.
Assists in preparing and administering the school budget and supervising school finance.
Assists the principal in assuming responsibility for scheduling.
Assists in ensuring that students receive appropriate placement and services.
Plans and accomplishes personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics.
Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
Assists in providing professional growth opportunities for staff.
Assists in communicating and clarifying the school's mission to students, staff, and community.
Assists in providing a safe, orderly environment that facilitates teaching and learning.
Assists in providing a climate of high expectations for staff and students.
Assists in the areas of discipline and attendance.
Assists in providing effective student management at the school and at school-related events.
Assists in facilities management and the upkeep and maintenance of the school campus.
Assists with the planning and supervision of co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
Performs other responsibilities as assigned by the principal. Terms of Employment:

Individuals hired for instructional positions must hold or be eligible for Alabama Teaching Certification in the appropriate field. Individuals hired for administrative positions must hold or be eligible for Alabama Certification as a School Administrator/Instructional Leader.

All positions are posted to meet the minimum number of days required by state regulations and are open until filled by the Muscle Shoals Board of Education.
