The Ohio Attorney General's Office is seeking two diligent and detail oriented people for the position of Inspector in our Correctional Facilities Inspection Services (CFIS) section to oversee and direct the daily operations of the Correctional Facilities Inspection Services. The CFIS provides external oversight of Ohio's correctional facilities, both adult and juvenile, by Inspecting facilities, evaluating programs, and reports on findings and recommendations. This position will work a hybrid in-person/remote schedule. There may be changes to this schedule based on training and operational needs. The headquartered locations is 30 E. Broad St. Columbus, Ohio. The duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Under general supervision plan, schedule & conduct onsite inspections of state correctional institutions, private correctional facilities, select local correctional facilities, and youth services facilities as required by R.C. 109.39.

Determine level of compliance against relevant correctional facility standards using inspection forms and other measuring resources. Identify deficiencies and recommend corrective action.

Confer with correctional facility leadership regarding inspections, findings and corrective action recommendations.

When required, assist correctional facility leadership in the development and evaluation of programs to improve the condition or operation of facilities.

Interact with inmates and prison staff at all levels.

Assist in drafting CFIS’ annual report to the Ohio General Assembly. Other duties as assigned by the CFIS Director.

Completion of undergraduate core coursework in criminal justice or related field plus 2 yrs. additional training and experience in jail, prison, or youth facility operation & management

Or 4 yrs. training or experience in jail, youth facility, or prison operation & management; Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Must have valid driver’s license.
