Our Apprentice Technicians play a critical role in this mission by preparing engines for delivery and supporting service work in the shop, helping position Monarch as the preferred power solution for diesel-powered equipment.
Wages
Starting wage will depend on experience and education. $21.42-$30.53
Responsibilities
As an Apprentice Diesel Technician, you will split your time between upfitting new industrial engines and assisting the service department with basic maintenance and repairs. Upfit work includes installing components, wiring, fluid fills, ECM flashing, and performing test runs. On the service side, you’ll assist with industrial equipment preventative maintenance and basic parts replacement under the guidance of experienced technicians.
This hands-on role is ideal for someone mechanically inclined and eager to build a long-term career in diesel technology. Monarch offers in-house technical training and a structured technician development program, providing a clear path for advancement into full-time service roles or other opportunities within the company.
Upfit Duties:
Assemble small engine subcomponents (e.g., fuel manifolds, coolant drains)
Install wiring harnesses to Monarch quality standards
Install optional components: PTO assemblies, compressors, switches, and wiring mods
Verify correct ECM flash files and fleet configurations using shared databases
Flash ECMs and make configuration changes as needed
Fill fluids to proper levels and perform engine test runs
Maintain clean, organized workspaces and perform equipment maintenance
Manage basic shop inventory (e.g., hardware, wiring accessories)
Upload quality checklists, photos, and quality documentation to internal systems
Service Support Duties:
Assist with preventative maintenance (oil changes, filter replacements, inspections)
Support technicians with basic troubleshooting and minor repairs
Help maintain tools, equipment, and service vehicles
Document tasks and time appropriately
Help unload and load customer units (forklift skills, etc)
Help with Service and branch housekeeping duties
Assist on field service calls if needed
Qualifications
Proficient with hand, air, and power tools
Familiar with both standard and metric fasteners and measurements
Basic understanding of diesel engine systems
Ability to follow step-by-step instructions and repeat processes with accuracy
Critical thinking and time management skills
Strong communication and teamwork abilities
Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, document uploads)
Safety and detail-oriented work habits
Experience & Education Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required
1 year of experience in a diesel, automotive, or mechanical field preferred
Enrollment in or completion of a diesel tech program a plus
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical work (bending, kneeling, standing)
Frequent use of tools, computers, and lifting equipment
Operate forklifts and small shop machinery (training provided)
Occasional travel by car or air may be required
Lockable rolling tool cart or chest
