About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Accounting Operations Controller to lead the accounting function and team at our company. This role offers a unique opportunity to build and scale accounting operations, to implement best-in-class processes, and to drive automation initiatives aligned with IFRS standards. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounting operations, ensuring compliance with IRFS, and establishing robust internal controls. This role reports to the VP of Finance and works closely with the Director of FP&A.
What You’ll Do
Financial Reporting & Compliance
Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements and management reporting packages (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
Ensure compliance with IFRS, U.S. GAAP (as applicable), and regulatory requirements.
Lead the annual audit process and coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors.
Research and resolve complex technical accounting issues.
Accounting Operations
Oversee daily accounting functions including AP, AR, cost accounting, and month-end close
Oversee cost accounting function by participating in annual standard costs updates for material, labor, and overhead to ensure appropriate margins are achieved
Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Ensure accurate and timely revenue recognition (ASC 606), COGS, expense tracking, and reconciliations.
Analyze manufacturing variances and prepare related management reports on an ongoing basis to drive efficiencies and cost savings
Process Improvement & Automation
Identify and implement automation opportunities in accounting workflows (e.g., invoice processing, reconciliations, reporting).
Collaborate with IT and finance teams to deploy ERP enhancements, RPA tools, and AI-driven solutions.
Continuously evaluate and refine accounting processes for scalability and efficiency
Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Leads, mentors and coaches the accounting team, building a high-performance culture
Creates and manages departmental KPIs that align with site and corporate objectives
Communicate financial insights effectively to non-financial stakeholders
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; a CPA/CFA or advanced degree (MBA, MS Accounting) preferred
8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a manufacturing environment
Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley internal accounting control procedures and processes
Proven experience in cost accounting and variance analysis
Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP) and cloud-based financial tools
Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work onsite (Columbus, Ohio) 3-4 days/week on average
Preferred Skills:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certification
Public accounting experience (Big 4) is a plus
NetSuite experience
Ability to understand financial systems and workflow and experience with an ERP implementation is a plus
Biotech, life sciences, or pharmaceutical experience strongly desired
Work Environment and Physical Demands
This position works in a typical office environment where the physical work demands will vary depending on the specific tasks and duties required of the job. This is largely a sedentary role; persons holding office positions are generally subject to environmental conditions having the lighting, temperature, and noise of an open floor-plan office environment. Regularly operate a computer and other office equipment. Regularly communicate with others in person, over the phone, and electronically. Must be able to move and/or carry objects weighing up to 10 lbs.
