As a Fixed Term Monday to Friday Café Cook at our Home Office in Saint John, NB, you will prepare and portion a variety of hot and cold food items, support kitchen operations, and help create a welcoming, branded experience for our employees. Your goal will be to maintain high standards in food quality and presentation while ensuring smooth daily operations through tasks like inventory control, packaging, and cleanliness. Your success will be measured by your contribution to a positive café atmosphere and ensuring a positive customer service experience every time.

Kindly note this is a Monday to Friday daytime position, and it is also a fixed term position until December 31, 2025.

Your Responsibilities:

Prepare and cook a variety of dishes including meats, fish, vegetables, soups, sandwiches, and baked goods using standard recipes and personal judgment and also maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment by regularly inspecting equipment, work surfaces, and serving areas

Regulate and monitor food storage and cooking temperatures, keeping detailed records to ensure food safety and freshness

Manage inventory by estimating food needs, rotating stock, and maintaining sufficient levels of food and supplies for smooth service

Follow standardized portion sizes, plate presentation guidelines, cooking methods, and café procedures to ensure consistent food quality

Collaborate with the Café Manager to develop menus and support special events, considering cost, variety, and customer needs

Assist with food prep during slower periods, fill in for other team members as needed, and help maintain service standards during busy times

Work closely with fellow employees to support café operations and attend meetings, offering suggestions for improvement and efficiency

Represent the Irving Oil brand by promoting a positive and branded employee experience through excellent service and attention to detail

Substitute for or assist other cooks or front of house team members during emergencies or rush periods and provide support when required for special company events/meetings

Your Skills:

Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment

Excellent time management, organization, and multi-tasking skills

Strong communication skills and a friendly energetic attitude

Your Experience:

High school diploma or equivalency

3-5 years’ experience in the food service industry
