Job Summary:
The Telecommunications Lineman is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground telecommunications lines. This role involves working at heights, operating specialized equipment, and ensuring all work is performed safely and in accordance with industry standards and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, maintain, and repair aerial and underground fiber optic and copper cable systems.
Climb utility poles and use bucket trucks to access overhead lines.
String and tension cables, install hardware, and perform splicing as needed.
Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and technical diagrams.
Operate and maintain tools and equipment such as cable pullers, lashers, and test meters.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including OSHA and company-specific protocols.
Perform site inspections and identify potential hazards or issues.
Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other trades on-site.
Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.Requirements:
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in telecommunications preferred.
0-2 years of experience in telecommunications line work or utility construction.
Proficiency in climbing poles and working at heights using safety gear.
Familiarity with fiber optic and copper cable systems.
Knowledge of NESC, NEC, and OSHA safety standards.
Ability to work in various weather conditions and environments.
Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as needed.
