Job Summary:
As a Fraud Analyst / Investigator, you will play a crucial role in protecting the credit union and its members from fraudulent activities. You will monitor transactions, investigate suspicious activity, and take proactive measures to mitigate fraud risks. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with members and internal teams.
The Fraud Unit Analyst is responsible for monitoring and analyzing fraud related data in the interest of fraud prevention and deterrent, and in the furtherance of the successful investigation of fraud cases.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Fraud Detection & Prevention: Monitor member transactions and account activity to identify potential fraud, including unauthorized transactions, account takeovers, and identity theft.
Investigation & Analysis: Conduct thorough investigations into suspicious transactions, leveraging fraud detection tools and member interaction to assess risk.
Member Communication: Contact members to verify transactions, provide fraud education, and assist in resolving fraud-related issues.
Case Management: Document fraud cases, track trends, and report findings to management and law enforcement as needed.
Chargeback & Dispute Handling: Process and manage fraud-related chargebacks and disputes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and credit union policies.
Collaboration: Will work closely with internal departments such as Risk Management, Compliance, Deposit Ops, and Information Technology to implement fraud mitigation strategies.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to all relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices related to fraud prevention and financial crimes.
Training & Awareness: Stay up to date on fraud trends and assist in educating employees and members about fraud prevention techniques.
Dispositioning red flags with new and existing accounts identified as high risk in the early warning systems.
Assigning account restriction based on fraud activities as directed
Placing notes and alert to accounts related to fraud
Posts fraud credits / debits to accounts related to fraud disputes / claims
Participates in available credit union self-development education programs and required compliance courses through self-study, online University, and the credit union's training department
Supports the credit union's goals by contributing to the success of the credit union's business objectives
Adheres to the FHCU Service Standards as established
Qualification Requirements
Educational/Training Requirement:
High school diploma required
Associate's degree preferred.
Experience:
1-3 years or more of experience in back office or front line banking preferred
Experience in Fraud Prevention
Experience as an analyst or as an investigator
Experience in investigating financial crimes preferred
Experience with DNA core system preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
Must possess a valid Driver's License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of credit union terminology and compliance best practices
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple cases simultaneously.
Proficiency in fraud detection software and banking systems is a plus.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Maintains confidentiality with sensitive information at all times
Ability to learn credit union software programs and online systems used in the furtherance of this job.
Salary: The base pay for this position is $25/hr. A $.50 premium may be added if the applicant is able to demonstrate a proficiency in both English & Spanish (oral & written).
