Job Description

Job Summary: Responsible for direction of Environmental Services for the facility; supervises staff to ensure clean, orderly, and attractive conditions in the facility. Monitors infection prevention and control and medical waste management practices as they relate to the environment of care. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Assists in formulating budget for the department.

Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:

Responsible for initiating, planning, and establishing policies for the department.

Maintains all required records, reports, statistics, etc.

Maintains all adequate quantity of essential operating supplies and equipment.

Determines the appropriate staffing levels of the department.

Plans work schedules and assigns hours and areas of work to ensure adequate services for all areas of the facility.

Establishes standards and work procedures for the housekeeping and laundry staff and is responsible for their training and supervision.

Inspects and evaluates the physical condition of the facility; recommends painting, repairs, furnishing and refurnishing and reallocation of space to improve sanitation, appearance, and efficiency.

Reports any unsafe conditions.

Investigates and evaluates new housekeeping and laundry supplies and equipment.

Participates on the facility’s infection prevention and control and other facility management committees.

Conducts research to improve housekeeping and laundry technology.

Initiates and directs training programs and in-services together with the Director of Staff Development.

Prepares the departmental budget.

Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
