Responsibilities:

Manage Junior level Studies Engineers and therefore this individual will oversee each EIT's work product while also developing their skills in a manner that will lead to them obtaining Professional Engineer status. The Power Systems Studies P.E. will be expected to have a direct interface with assigned clients and project manage those engagements.

The Power Systems Studies P.E. will be expected to attend industry events such as Texas A&M Relay Conference, Annual Transmission & Substation Design & Operating Symposium, and other similar events. Likewise, the Power Systems Studies P.E. will be expected to maintain their credentials and actively work to expand PE licenses to required States. Travel to industry conferences and events along with client sites is expected and will vary by current workload and schedule.

Job Requirements:

Serves as Engineer of Record on assigned projects and develops solutions for the execution of electrical engineering studies.

Prepare and or review electrical equipment specifications for MCC's, Switchgear, Substations, and electrical equipment selection

Reviews specifications, drawings, and vendor equipment documentation from both within the discipline as well as from other disciplines for compliance with project requirements

Apply design knowledge in power distribution, grounding, lighting, control systems, and equipment specification and selection

Complete projects with the specified electrical deliverables such as electrical equipment supplier bid evaluation, load list, cable schedule, electrical equipment list, cable and conduit schedules, emergency generator sizing, electrical one-line diagrams for low voltage and medium voltage, hazardous area classification drawings, and ground grid design

Analyze complex engineering problems and offer effective resolutions

Perform analysis and calculations, conduct studies and prepare reports

Ensures adherence to Industry codes and standards

Contribute to discipline Design Criteria for engineering or design activities

Communicate technically with clients and vendors regarding the electrical design when needed

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor as needed.

Position is full time working in our Houston Engineering office. Required Experience:

Licensed as a professional engineer in the State of Texas

Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university

10 to 20 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering studies and design

Strong verbal and written communication skills are required with the ability to prepare written specifications and contract documents.

Knowledge of electrical engineering and design and familiarity with applicable codes, standards, and acceptable industry practices with strong working knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC) and NFPA 70E codes

Experience working with electrical design and engineers in the design of facilities in Upstream, Midstream, and Downstream Oil & Gas, along with power generation, alternative energy, among other markets which utilization, medium voltage and low voltage power distribution, including power system design, equipment/protective device sizing, power system studies

A working background that includes performing extensive short circuit studies, relay coordination, grounding calculations, motor acceleration studies, electrical load flow, and load analysis, arc flash studies, voltage drop calculations, steady-state, and transient stability analysis using both SKM and ETAP.

Working knowledge of electrical power system calculations

Knowledge of the basics of conceptual power system design

SEL and Multiline Relay experience is a plus.

Specific experience in protective relaying and coordination

Knows electrical equipment and material

Understanding of the procurement process for electrical equipment and bulk material

Possess applied knowledge of electrical equipment and material

Understanding of industry and manufacturers' testing procedures

Require candidates to have exposure to high voltage line structure, circuit breaker, and substation design

Working experience on medium voltage and low voltage distribution systems

Working experience with Single Line diagrams, Area classifications, Power and control schematics and wiring diagrams, Raceway design specific to tray and conduit systems, lighting and grounding design as well as Electrical installation details

Understanding engineering specifications with motors, transformers, switchgear, motor control center, variable frequency drives, soft starters, and UPS/batteries systems.

Must be highly organized, self-motivated, and able to handle multiple tasks. Excellent presentation and written communication skills, time management, and organizational skills are required. This position requires the ability to work under pressure, be self-directed with good business judgment, and handle confidential information appropriately.
