LAB MANAGER (Chemical/Ink)

Our client is looking for a motivated Lab Manager to join their team. The Lab Manager provides work instruction and guidance to the Lab Supervisors & Lab Technicians. They will ensure product security is maintained through rigorous and reliable lab testing procedures and provide precise and accurate reports on security conformance according to company and customer specifications. The Lab Manager will work closely with the Corporate Lab Services to ensure staffing levels, equipment, materials, and schedules are in place to meet departmental, customers and manufacturing requirements. The Lab Manager will ensure product security meets company and customer specifications through rigorous and reliable lab tests.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure Lab staff members are following safe work practices and procedures.
Ensure department has required resources and optimizes the use of resources.
Recommend efficiencies and ways to reduce costs.
Directing and managing the research and development projects and actively participating in new product development, ensuring the integrity of our current processes and compliance to security requirements.
Ensuring that all testing completed by the labs are executed accurately and recorded; ensuring non-conforming product is identified and disposed of or dealt with via company policy.
Ensuring all incoming raw materials meet the required specifications.
Maintaining awareness of new trends and technologies.
Assist with management of lab personnel including but not limited to, training & development, employee relations, performance management and recruitment.
Various project work
Perform lab job when needed, able to lift to 50lb, stand long periods, walking and carry items, stack pallets, etc
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor of Science in chemistry or its equivalent with relative experience in the printing or inks and coatings formulation industry
Prior supervisory or experience leading a group of employees as an asset
Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
1+ years with Staff and Lab management experience
Industrial coatings application or practical experience in papermaking
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Strong PC and MS office skills required
Ensure Lab staff are performing tests according to Security Procedures
Experience working in a production environment
