Job Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Full Stack Development Manager with a strong backend architecture focus to lead our full-stack development team while remaining actively involved in system design, architecture, and coding. This role will involve both managing and mentoring a team while also contributing directly to key design and development efforts, solving complex technical challenges, and shaping both our back-end and front-end architecture.
This is a highly technical leadership position that requires strong hands-on development expertise as well as the ability to effectively lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing full-stack engineering team.
Essential Functions
Technical Leadership (Hands-On)
Design and architect scalable, secure, and highly available full-stack web applications.
Oversee system security, identify vulnerabilities, and implement solutions to mitigate risks.
Coordinate with third-party vendors to develop and integrate software aligned with business objectives.
Lead the design and implementation of high-performance, AWS-based microservices and data pipelines.
Review code, provide technical mentorship, and established coding best practices.
Own back-end service architecture, API design, and front-end integration.
Demonstrated success delivering web applications using React and modern JavaScript tooling.
Team Leadership & Management
Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of full-stack developers.
Foster a strong engineering culture emphasizing code quality, continuous improvements, and accountability.
Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development coaching.
Partner with recruiting to scale the team and effectively onboard new hires.
Project Execution & Delivery
Own delivery timelines, sprint planning, backlog management, and resource allocation.
Collaborate with Product, UX, QA, DevOps, Security, and business stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.
Proactively identify and resolve technical risks, blockers, and delivery bottlenecks. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
10+ years of professional software development experience, including substantial work across the full stack, with a strong emphasis on backend systems architecture, distributed microservices, and data-intensive applications.
Deep hands-on expertise in Java (Spring Boot or similar) for building scalable, secure back-end services and REST APIs in production environments.
Proficient in Linux environments (CentOS, Ubuntu, etc.) and the full web stack, including protocols and web server optimization techniques.
Experience architecting systems that ingest and process millions of events daily from IoT or telematics data sources.
Solid knowledge of software security and privacy practices to ensure compliance with CCPA, GDPR, and secure system design.
Experience with automotive telematics or connected car technology is a plus.
5+ years of technical team leadership and engineering management experience.
Recent hands-on experience with:
Back-end: Java (Spring Boot), REST APIs, microservices, distributed systems, system design, familiarity with C++
Front-end: React (preferred), JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3.
Cloud: AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, API Gateway, CloudFormation, IAM).
Proficiency in both relational and NoSQL databases.
Expertise in modern CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), infrastructure automation, and DevOps best practices.Preferred Qualifications
AWS Professional Certifications.
Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms.
Infrastructure-as-Code experience (Terraform, AWS CDK).
Experience designing secure systems (OAuth2, OWASP, SSO, etc.).
Prior experience scaling distributed teams or hybrid onshore-offshore models. Office Location

For California based hires, the annual salary range is $160,000 - $185,000 depending on experience.
FLSA Job Status is Exempt
