The Medical Assistant will perform clinical duties which includes intakes/ medical and sexual histories with patients, blood draws and various swabs for STI testing, processing specimens and preparing them for shipment, documenting all activity and giving medications as directed by a licensed provider.

Responsibilities:

Greet and acknowledge all patients according to agency standards

Receive, record and relay messages accurately, completely and legibly

Speak with others using clear, professional and polite language

Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others, support the ACG team to reach common goal

Room patient, obtain vital signs, record the subjective and perform medication reconciliation.

Collect blood or fluid samples, using appropriate collection procedures

Dispose of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies

Dispose of contaminated sharps, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies

Draw blood and process specimens

Perform rapid testing for HIV and Hepatitis C

Collect and result rapid urine analysis, rapid hCG, rapid UDS, blood glucose test

Explain self-collection procedures to patients

Process specimens according to Quest/LabCorp standards

Maintain laboratory supplies inventory; monitor expiration dates on medical and laboratory supplies and assist in placing orders as necessary

Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations

Administer vaccines and injections as directed

Maintain PPA-funded medication inventory

Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols; follow identification procedures

Use PPE following all OSHA guidelines

Comply with the ACG Confidentiality Agreement, HIPAA and other applicable laws and agency policies to ensure patient confidentiality

Monitor and record Refrigerator/ Freezer temperature in the morning and evening

Maintain professional certification and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops

Participate in community outreach events by collecting and processing specimens on the MTU (mobile treatment unit)

Other duties as assignedRequirements:

High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)

3+ yrs. experience in phlebotomy

Post-Secondary Certificate preferred

Fluency in Spanish is preferred

A working knowledge of the community and the ability to link clients to services in the community when necessary

Must be able to comfortably work with people of all lifestyles

A working knowledge of Medical Assistance, Medicaid, Medicare and Health Choices billing regulations and systems

Work Conditions:

An in-office position, primary standing position

Occasional stooping, reaching, bending, kneeling, crouching

Occasional lifting of equipment or supplies (up to 30lbs)

May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases

May be exposed to biohazardous substances

Exposed to odorous chemicals and specimens

May be exposed to toxic chemicals

Exposed to heat, wetness, and odors in patient areas

Handle emergency or crisis situations

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or fell, and reach with arms and hands
