POSITION PURPOSE :

This position is part of a team-based approach in providing patient-centered care. The Mental Health Registered Nurse in the Women's Care clinic utilizes the nursing process to plan and provide patient care to the Women's Care clinic (WCC) according to established standards and practices.

NATURE AND SCOPE :

The Mental Health Registered Nurse in the Women's Care clinic provides patient care as outlined in this position description. Standards for nursing practice have been established by the Alaska State Board of Nursing, state statute, American Nurses Association and the American Association of Office Nurses. The Mental Health Registered Nurse in the Women's Care clinic provides care to clients of the Women's Care clinic/South Peninsula Hospital (WCC/SPH) in accordance with established practice standards and state and federal regulations. The Mental Health Registered Nurse in the WCC performs all of the activities required to provide women's health patient care in the clinic setting and may work in other areas as appropriate based on experience and training.

EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE :

Requires a current license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Alaska.

Must have current BLS certification.

Experience in mental health care and/or women's health

Speaking, listening, and basic writing skills are required to communicate with others, and to document care given.

Ability to educate and triage patients receiving mental health care

Ability to type and record accurate and comprehensive notes in patient records with an electronic health record system

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

Ability to work independently, but also collaboratively within a team environment

South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22 bed critical access hospital, 28 bed long term care facility, orthopedic, mental health, and family practice clinics located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula. The environment is generally pleasant, clean and well maintained. The position requires sitting, interviewing patients, and typing for prolonged periods. Generally, physical demands are light and work is performed inside.
