About the Role

We are seeking an experienced professional to join our client as a Lead Controller who will be responsible for maintaining all financial accounting and support services to meet the needs of the organization. This full-time role combines leadership in financial management with hands-on responsibilities encompassing financial reporting and analysis, budget development, day-to-day financial management, and compliance, as well as proven ability to guide strategic financial decisions that align with the organization’s goals.

The Lead Controller will report to the CEO and assist in supporting the organization’s overall financial health and sustainability. This position is based in Howell, MI. It can lead to a Finance Manager position or equivalent.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting:

Provide oversight of general accounting function including accounts receivable and payable review and approval, ensuring proper cost allocation and policy/procedure compliance.

Assist CEO in assessing programmatic and organizational needs based on current resources and projected trends.

Examine accounting systems data and financial reports to identify improvement opportunities and confirm successful implementation of accounting procedures and systems.

Lead individual projects assigned by CEO or Management.

Support month-end close process.

Support organization annual budget process and required internal financial and program audits as needed.

Managing supplier contracts (renew of software, insurances, e.g.)

Project Accounting:

Manage project accounting activities, including timesheet data, accounts payable entry, and credit card expense reporting, to ensure accurate and complete project level costing.

Support monthly review meetings with CEO and project teams.

Perform ad-hoc financial analysis in response to requests from the CEO.

Oversight & Administration:

Oversee financial accounting systems, customization, and ongoing maintenance (Quickbooks, Divvy, Bills.com)

Monitor compliance with all relevant financial, federal rules/regulations, and internal policies/procedures.

Support development of internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial records and reporting processes.

What You’ll Need:

Minimum of 3 years of progressive financial and accounting experience including budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.

General knowledge of GAAP, budgeting, financial analysis and auditing standards.

Ability to analyze, evaluate and summarize financial records for accuracy and conformance to procedures, rules and regulations.

Exceptional verbal and written communications skills, with ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial managers.

Advanced experience with financial management and data processing software: Quickbooks Enterprise,Quickbooks Online, and Bill platform preferred, and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe required.

Strong administrative, organizational, and analytical skills; including attention to detail and follow through.

Self-motivated with ability to work collaboratively across departments.

Featured benefits

This position offers a range of $95,000-$110,000 and is commensurate with experience.
