LEAD BEHAVIORIST Job Description The Lead Behaviorist will work collaboratively with building, special and general education teachers, behavioral assistants and support staff, and Executive Director of Student Services to ensure the delivery of the best clinical support and behavioral support services for students with and without disabilities.
The Lead Behaviorist will also provide direct supervision of behavioral staff.
Additionally, the Lead Behaviorist will provide training and support to program staff to help support students with social/emotional challenges or disabilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES: • Supervise and train Behavior Assistants • Oversight of behavioral data collection systems across the district.
• Evaluate and monitor student behavior within district classrooms, school buildings, school grounds and school bus environments.
• Work with district staff to determine and develop appropriate behavioral action plans, assisting with implementation to meet the needs of students.
• Monitor behavioral data to determine student eligibility for integration into inclusion classroom(s). • Serve as a participant in student meetings and present relevant student data at these meetings as required.
• Perform CPI or other de-escalation and behavior support training.
• Consult with school, program and District staff to discuss program and student needs.
• Create protocols and procedures to ensure consistency of expectations for students.
• Create, review, revise, and monitor individual behavior plans as necessary.
• Alter existing behavioral plans to include daily modifications on an as needed basis.
• Provide coaching/modeling to program staff.
• Ensure all mandated documents are completed according to regulations and District protocols, including but not limited to physical restraint forms.
• Work to design, implement, and monitor special education programs, positive behavioral intervention strategies, social/emotional interventions, sensory input diets, behavior support programs and clinical intervention support to students and families in the district.
• Develop written guidelines for behavioral interventions, teaching plans and programs.
• Collect data for each goal/objective during each teaching session.
• Submit and review data with the Executive Director of Student Services and/or Clinical & Behavioral Services coordinator.
• Provide training in behavioral supports including collaborative problem solving and/or other supports depending on programmatic needs.
• Analyze data collected to determine behavioral program effectiveness.
• Required to become the District CPI Trainer • Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: • A minimum of 2 (two) years’ experience as a Behavioral Assistant, preferably in a public education setting.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
Preferred Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
Evidence of specific professional study in the field of special education, psychology, Applied Behavioral Analysis, or social work.
• Trained or be willing to be trained as a trainer in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or other form of crisis management.
Past experience with physical intervention strongly preferred.
• Experience and understanding of behavioral intervention techniques including ignoring, limit setting, delivery of reinforcement and consequence, proximity control, timeout, level systems, and physical management.
• Experience working collaboratively with community based mental health agencies, Department of Child & Family Services, Department of Youth Services, Department of Mental Health, and other community programs to integrate services for students in the New Bedford Public Schools.
• Understanding of requirements for DESE mandated restraint training and experience working with schools to complete the training process.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and social skills with colleagues, district staff, families and community.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: • Non-Union • 12 Month Work Year • Salary commensurate with experience/qualifications ($70,000- $80,000) Job Requirements: •At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred •Bachelor degree preferred •Citizenship, residency or work visa required
