Lift Station Operator

Job Description

The Lift Station Operator is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and inspection of the City's wastewater lift stations. This position monitors station performance, responds to alarms, performs preventative maintenance, and ensures continuous operation of pumps, controls, valves, and electrical systems. The role requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and knowledge of TCEQ compliance standards.Key Responsibilities:

Lift Station Operation & Monitoring

Inspect and monitor lift stations daily for proper pump operation, flow, and electrical control function.

Respond to SCADA alarms and troubleshoot pump or system failures.

Ensure wet wells are cleaned and float switches, level sensors, and alarms are operational.

Record operational data, such as run times, cycle counts, and pump performance.

Preventative & Corrective Maintenance

Perform routine maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, and controls.

Clean debris and grease from wet wells and bar screens.

Coordinate with contractors or internal crews for major repairs or equipment replacement.

Maintain spare parts inventory and ensure tools are in working condition.

Compliance & Recordkeeping

Document inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs in accordance with TCEQ standards.

Maintain logs and reports for regulatory compliance and system performance tracking.

Assist with preparation of reports and documentation for audits and inspections.

Emergency Response & Support

Participate in after-hours on-call rotation to respond to lift station alarms and failures.

Support emergency preparedness efforts, including storm response and generator deployment.

Assist with bypass pumping and coordination during major outages or repairs.

Other Duties

Perform other related duties as assigned.
