Job Title: Data Center Engineering Operations - Hiring Our Heros Cohort

Location: Ashburn, VA (onsite)

Program Type: Hiring Our Heroes (HoH) Cohort and/or DoD SkillBridge Program

Cohort: 28-week cohort both in class and in the field with permanent placement with AWS.

Shift: Your work schedule may vary depending on specific site needs, with shifts up to 12 hours that may rotate on a predefined schedule. Some locations include on-call rotations, and this role may support more than one location/site.

A Day in the Life of a Data Center Engineering Operations Fellow:

As an AWS Data Center Engineering Operations Fellow, you will be Amazon’s front line for hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment preventative maintenance (PM) and troubleshooting. Reporting to a Data Center Facility Manager, you will be integral to maintaining, operating, and troubleshooting mission-critical data center facility equipment. This includes:

· Electrical Systems: Stand-by diesel generators and related fuel systems, 3-phase electrical systems such as switchgear, UPS units, PDUs, and wet cell batteries and associated systems.

· Mechanical Systems: CRAHU units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, water systems, air handlers and associated systems, pumps, and motors.

· Support Equipment: Fire/life safety equipment, building automation systems, and general facilities equipment.

Key Learning and Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of experienced professionals, you will learn to:

· Perform daily building rounds to monitor and record information from electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment, ensuring 24/7 reliability and availability.

· Monitor Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Management System (EPMS).

· Assist in troubleshooting facility and rack-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).

· Perform rack installs and rack decommissioning within internal SLA.

· Perform PM, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment.

· Contribute to technical writing to support our change management program.

· Monitor daily work requests, manage tasks to resolution, and assist in executing projects from conception to completion.

· Provide on-site support for contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors, ensuring adherence to established practices, procedures, and local legislation.

Basic Qualifications:

· Technical (Military/Trade School) training OR 1+ years of electrical, mechanical, HVAC, or fire system experience in a mission-critical infrastructure or equivalent experience in a relevant industry.

· 1+ years’ experience with Microsoft Office products (including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).

· High school or equivalent diploma.

Preferred Qualifications:

· 2+ years of Data Center Engineering experience.

Physical Requirements:

· Willingness and demonstrated ability to work in the following physical conditions with reasonable accommodations:

· Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds independently.

· Participate in group lifts for 40+ pounds.

· Maintain balance and perform construction tasks while on a ladder.

· Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb stairs, twist, bend, work above shoulders, grasp, carry, push and pull objects into position.

Machinist Technician

Responsibilities:

Performs set-up and machining of large stamping dies and molds. Supports programming of shop floor software. Builds machining process libraries for Auto Tool Change. Maintains shop tool holders, collets, newly purchased tooling and repairs. Maintains and promotes a safe and clean working environment. Performs weekly preventive maintenance on machines and reports findings.

Daily Tasks:

Performs setup of large vertical machining centers. Performs G code and shop floor programming. Works with metric system and blue prints. Performs accurate time keeping of jobs. Builds tool assemblies. Determines proper tool selection for the job process. Works within a team to solve problems. Performs set-up and uses measuring tools to check work.

Wage scale starts at $25.55 and increases over an 8 step OJT type program

Experience:

Minimum of five years in machining environment performing manual programming and CNC operation. Uses CNC machines in a prototype environment.

Knowledge:

Familiar with set-up and operation of large 3-5 axis vertical machines along with small manual machines. Knowledge of the metric system.

Required Skills:

CNC G code programming skills.

Strong communication skills.

Strong investigation and analytical skills.

Self-motivated and ability to work with limited supervision.

Computer skills (Microsoft office applications – Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Desired Skills:

Basic CAD skills.

Tool and die manufacturing experience.

Smirt DieNc programming experience.

Mastercam shop floor programming.

Ten+ years machining large die castings with CNC equipment.

Familiar with use of Fanuc, Fidia, and Okuma machine controls.

Degree:

High School diploma. Trade School and/or Apprenticeship Tool & Die Program preferred.

Position Factors:

Primary shift will be either 2nd (2:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.) but must be flexible to work any shift. Must be willing and able to perform physical aspects of job (lifting 40 lbs. or more, climbing up/down off equipment, operate overhead cranes, forklifts, etc.). Must be willing to travel when necessary. Overtime and weekend work required.
