SUMMARY OF POSITION
Position involves assisting mechanics in the repair and maintenance of city owned/leased vehicles and equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (Essential functions include the following and the Physical Requirements listed below)
Assist mechanics in repairs on city owned/leased vehicles and equipment
Respond to disabled city vehicles and equipment
Perform preventative maintenance on city vehicles and equipment
Maintain a current level of knowledge regarding technological changes of city vehicles and equipment
Wash and maintain city owned vehicles and equipment
Subject to 24 hour call out after probationary period or when able
Provide assistance in snow removal
Perform other duties as assigned
BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent
Class B-CDL Drivers License
Must provide own hand tools
Driving record acceptable to the City
Some Trade School experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED
Mechanical abilities
Manual dexterity abilities
Verbal communication skills
ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) G1, Auto Maintenance and Light Repair Certification, preferred
General knowledge of automotive repair
Small engine repair and maintenance knowledge
WORKING CONDITIONS
Most work will be accomplished in a maintenance garage environment but will include working in field conditions to inspect, diagnose, and repair vehicles and equipment. Work may also be accomplished in all kinds of weather conditions and subject to 24 hour call out.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Manual dexterity sufficient to effectively perform all mechanical operation/functions on all vehicles
Ability to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
Ability to lift items weighing up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis
Ability to kneel, bend at the waist, visual acuity sufficient to make effective visual inspections
