Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented CNC Programmer with strong AutoCAD skills to support our shipbuilding operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and optimizing CNC programs for the fabrication of metal components used in ship construction, including hull structures, piping, bulkheads, and outfitting elements. This role is critical in ensuring precision cutting, efficient workflows, and adherence to the exacting standards of the maritime industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Create, edit, and optimize CNC programs for cutting, drilling, and shaping metal parts used in marine vessels.
Utilize AutoCAD to interpret and modify shipbuilding drawings, production layouts, and fabrication schematics.
Interface with naval architects, marine engineers, and production teams to ensure manufacturability of complex components.
Generate CNC code for plasma cutters, oxy-fuel cutters, routers, and other shipyard machinery.
Perform test runs and dry-runs on CNC machines to validate code before full-scale production.
Ensure dimensional accuracy and quality compliance according to shipbuilding standards
Develop and maintain setup sheets, tool lists, and work instructions.
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to CNC programming, tooling, and cycle time optimization.
Troubleshoot machining and programming issues as they arise.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or certification in CNC Programming, Marine Engineering Technology, or Manufacturing preferred.
3+ years of CNC programming experience in a heavy fabrication or shipbuilding environment.
Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and experience reading complex ship drawings, including weld symbols and structural details.
Solid understanding of G-code/M-code and CNC machine operations including plasma, laser, and multi-axis milling machines.
Experience with CAM software (e.g., SigmaNEST, Mastercam, or similar) used in plate nesting and profile cutting.
Knowledge of marine-grade materials including steel, aluminum, and corrosion-resistant alloys.
Strong attention to detail, quality, and safety protocols.
Preferred Skills:
Familiarity with shipbuilding standards and classification society requirements.
Experience with 3D modeling tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor) is a plus.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing and shipyard production workflows.Company Description
