Position Overview POSITION SUMMARY: The Judicial Assistant serves in the Judicial Department and reports to the Appointing Judge.

The Judicial Assistant maintains responsibility for advanced audio/video recording equipment and other technology needs in the courtroom and performs related administrative duties.

Summary of Job Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential duties and responsibilities of the position are as follows: * Operates advanced audio/video equipment for trials and other courtroom proceedings requiring the creation of an official record.

* Completes weekly system checks on courtroom equipment and performs minor adjustments as needed.

* Creates and maintains video log printout documenting pertinent information and events that occur during course of proceedings in the courtroom.

* Sets up, positions, and operates visual equipment, and assists others, including trial counsel, with the displaying of evidence as needed.

* Responsible for after-docket scanning of all docket reports and notes.

* Gathers all documents and video records of all proceedings when a written transcript is requested; disburses transcripts to the attorneys and files with the Clerk of Courts.

* Cross-trains as a Bailiff and provides Bailiff coverage as needed.

* Assists with civil case management.

* Prepares empaneling entry and final jury count upon conclusion of voir dire and at time the final jury panel is selected.

Types jury charge, verdict forms, and interrogatories as needed.

* Maintains the chain of custody by managing all aspects of evidence introduced at trial or any court proceeding.

Inputs evidence into evidence tracking system, prepares entry to submit to evidence room, and properly transports for storage.

* Participates in training opportunities, court activities, projects, and committees as requested or required.

* Completes other duties and responsibilities as required.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS: * Knowledge of: court system processes and procedures; case management processes; office practices and procedures;intermediate information technology systems.

* Ability to: handle sensitive inquiries from and contacts with officials and the general public.

* Skill in: oral and written communication; general typing; operation of a computer; intermediate technological skills; application of job software programs including spreadsheets and word processing; analyzing information against established standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS: The position requires an appropriate combination of formal education, additional training and courses, and work experience.

There is not an exact level or mixture of these elements to indicate one will necessarily be successful in, or qualify for, the position.

For example purposes only, an acceptable combination of qualifications for the position would include a bachelor's degree in public or business administration, criminal justice, or related field, with proven technological skills and three years' experience in a court or legal environment, or an associate's degree in public or business administration, criminal justice, or a related field, with proven technological skills and five years' experience in a court or legal environment.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A valid state of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license is preferred in order to carry out job-related essential functions.

Private insurance is required if private vehicle is employed for job-related functions.

SCOPE OF SUPERVISION: The position requires no supervisory duties or responsibilities.

Supplemental Information EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Vehicle, computer, calculator, copier, fax, telephone, and other general office equipment.

Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when typing and using a computer screen.

Job may involve operating and sitting in a vehicle.

Employee may need to lift up to 50 pounds, and could be exposed to toxic or caustic fumes, chemicals, or airborne particles, weapons, and drugs.
