Senior Data Scientist

Intelligent Waves is seeking a highly skilled and results-driven Senior Data Scientist to support our mission critical work in support of our government customer at Reston, VA and Ft. Belvoir. In this role, you'll tackle challenges by delivering complete, end-to-end solutions in a dynamic and agile environment. Location: Onsite in Reston, VA initially, with the position expected to relocate to Ft. Belvoir in approximately one year. The selected candidate will work as part of a broader team to provide ongoing coverage and support throughout both phases.

Security Clearance: Must be a United States Citizen and hold a current TS-SCI or TS with SCI eligibility security clearance.

Adherence to all customer site protocols is mandatory for employees.

Responsibilities

Analyze and interpret structured and unstructured data to extract meaningful insights.

Apply expertise in IoT, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to solve real-world challenges.

Collaborate with clients across public and private sectors to understand their data needs and objectives.

Explore data-rich environments to identify patterns, trends, and relevant information.

Lead the development of algorithms, models, and analytical systems.

Guide and support teammates in data science tasks and project execution.

Select and apply appropriate tools and frameworks to analyze and interpret diverse data sets.

Transform complex datasets into objective, actionable insights to support client decision-making.

Deliver clear explanations of data significance and applications to clients and stakeholders.

Contribute to mission-driven projects that address global issues such as fraud detection, healthcare, and national security.

Qualifications

Required

5+ years of experience in applied data science or ML roles, including using Python and NLP and LLM implementation

5+ years of experience with data exploration, data cleaning, data analysis, data visualization, or data mining

Experience with production-level systems, data lake environments, and streaming data, including Kafka

Experience implementing end-to-end ML workflows from data prep to deployment and evaluation

Ability to quickly learn infrastructure or systems concepts, including how pipelines interface with data lakes

Ability to design, implement, and iterate on ML models for document classification, extraction, summarization, and search

Ability to take ownership of data science workflows that interact with a production system streaming millions of documents per week

TS/SCI clearance

Bachelor's degree

Desired

Experience in collaborating with MLOps and infrastructure engineers to ensure robust model deployment, monitoring, and retraining pipelines

Experience supporting platform components such as documents indexing or search, GPU workloads, and distributed storage, including Cloudera

Experience in the development of algorithms leveraging R, Python, SQL, or NoSQL

Experience with Distributed data or computing tools, including MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, EMR, Spark, Gurobi, or MySQL

Experience with visualization packages, including Plotly, Seaborn, or ggplot2
